First Grow: Are My Girls Looking, Okay?

Here is my AK48 after almost four days of the drowning process. You can see the quart of peroxide I'm using to weigh her down and stop it from trying to float - and the plastic T5 lens cover I'm using to support one of her stems. That fat cola has leaned into the wall again, even though its tied up. The 2nd largest cola is that one laying almost sideways. It may need a helper too, if it gets any fatter. Whoever said 'thin is in' just doesn't know the truth...'fat is where it's at'!!!

Speaking of fat...here is Fat Ass 4 1/2 weeks into flower. She's starting to spread her buds all up the stems now - you can see where the big colas are going to be, and I think there will be several really nice ones in another three weeks.

Looking good, especially all the leaves dropping down....she is giving, she might be ready soon....Is she yellowing at all? Cant really tell from pics.

Thanks BKB...she was already fading and losing fans for a while, so there isn't much left on the lower level to go yellow. Is that the final sign to when she should be chopped?

Yes thats one of the signs, has her water level went down at all? Another sign is that all the leaves are droopy. If her water level went down and isnt going down no more than I would say chop cause she has been drowning for a few days I believe. How many days has she been drowning for? Once the plant pulls all "N" out you can chop too. How are her trichs looking now? She is looking good bro and that is going to be some nicely cured bud that you will be able to smoke as soon as its dried.

I have had to add water every day from about the third or fourth day...she is at the one week point as of very early Friday morning. It seems as though she is still drinking - I'm thinking another day or two maybe, but I will chop her as soon as I hit a day where she didn't absorb anything. She's finished the 9th week of flowering now, and the trichs are a mix of cloudy and amber. I need to check them again to be able to guess on percentages... I think I'll put the Short Rider into drowning mode today too, as she's at the 9th week now.

So far so good Mandi, you are correct, once she stops wickering water, chop her!!!! Has her buds got swollen at all? I just started to drown my Herojuana OG Kush Plant, I cant wait to smoke this one. Hope you dont mind me post a pic of my plant DROWNING! Not trying to jack your thread bro!

Well BKB, it looked like there were about 25% amber trichs in the upper areas, so I chopped the two big colas Friday. I didn't want her to get too far into the amber range, and she drank very little water in the last day, so I think she's about done anyway. I've got my eye on the rest of the plant, and will take her down in a day or two. I put the Short Rider into the deep end of the pool too! I took a pic of the buds thru my led lighted scope, and also of the two colas I harvested. The wet weight is 42 and 72 grams, so I hope to get around 1.5ozs dry from them. The bud pics may not be that clear, but she sure was sticky...had to soak the trimming scissors in alcohol to clean off the gummy resin on the blades. Will update as soon as I can... -Mandi

How long are you going to wait till you chop the rest? I would just chop the rest now. They might need a day or two extra to dry cause of drowning. I notice that with mine that I have finished with drowning.

I am trying something new with the drowning of my Hero, I basically flushed the shit out of her with molasses and then coated her soil with Molasses 3 days later she was dry so I started to drown.

Well I hope you enjoy your bud, it will be smokable as soon as it dries. Make sure you keep us posted on the smoke report.

Hey Manditroy when you harvest the rest of your buds, DON'T soak the scissors to get the sticky resin off. Take a razor blade and scrape that resin off the scissors and smoke that shit

No worries BKB...and I was making a play on the word 'bro' with the use of 'broad'! I don't really see that as a derogatory term like 'bitch' - I think of it more as a term meaning a 'one of the boys kinda gal'. I'm usually a broad...except when I'm being a bitch...LOL

I will probably chop the rest of the AK before I go to Easter dinner. Let me know if there is any difference in using the molasses flush.

DON'T FEEL BAD BKB! You would really have no reason to assume we were females, as most people on here are probably males. I don't think there are that many growing on their own that post here, although there are likely many gals that work as 'assistant gardeners' to their growing men. I'm a long stretch of +rep points from getting near the 'Mr Ganja' title, but I think we should petition to have Chief's changed to 'Ms Ganja' immediately!

When Mothers Day comes, go out and have a good meal (and maybe a drink) at her favorite restaurant in her honor. Then when you get home, light up a bowl of 'MamaDude' if you have any left. It will take the edge off...

Hope the Easter Bunny leaves you all some chocolate covered peanut butter turds! Mmm can't wait for my favorite Reese's Eggs with a cold glass of milk...

Thanks for the advice, those Peanut Butter Easter Eggs are the bomb!!!! I always buy those at this time of the year, I also like the Heart Shaped ones during Valentines Day. I am a Reese LOVER!!! My Hero that I am drowning is in plain water, what I did different this time is prior to drowning I flushed her with Molasses. After that flush I waited 3 days cause she was dried and then I started to drown her. She has been drowning for few days(4) I think she might be ready tomorrow or Tuesday.

You know they make those damn Reese's things as Halloween pumpkins too! I can't seem to avoid them, so I've given in and I eat them on any holiday they make them for. I'm kinda thinking there some untapped possibilities...shamrocks or turkeys perhaps?

I tried Germinating 2 Northern Light seed from Chief and they didn't Germ. I had them in a Root Riot Plug in a Humidity Dome with a heat mat and still didn't germ after 10 days. So I dumped them. Oh well. I would like to get my hands on more NL seeds if possible cause I was to back cross it with a NL x Skunk x Chem Dawg x OG Kush strain I have. Its called Cougar Kush, I figured you would enjoy that name...lol! I love me some Cougars....lol

I'm chopping my Hero today its done drowning....

It's gonna be several days for the AK smoke report...she isn't anywhere near dry yet. The big main colas were chopped on Friday, and they have been hanging since then but are still pretty far from dry enough to light up. I will be busy with work for the rest of the week, so that will keep my anxious mind off of them while they do their thing.

I only germed one each of the NL and MK from Chief. They're growing well now after being topped for 4 colas, and I have the tops cloned and about ready to set off on their vegging journey. I sure hope they turn out to be girls! If they're boys, I will probably grow them to get pollen for later anyway.

Yeah, Cougar Kush is a clever name...you like Cougars, huh? LOL Are you already growing some of that? If so, how is it? Stinky or low smell - I still prefer to find some low smell strains that give a decent yield and smoke.

Just a quick update on the harvest of the remainder of the AK48...here are the small colas drying on their line, and a tray of the nuggets - total wet weight is 111g (in addition to the 114g from the two big colas cut earlier). Final for the plant is 225g wet, so I'm guessing on 2.5ozs, or so, for dry weight.
What do you think on that? About right?

You should easily clear 2 zips. Have you done a wet weight and dry weight before of this strain previous grow? If so then I would gauge you guesstimate off that. That's a very nice harvest Mandi, let's hope u notice a difference in smoke due to drowning. As soon as its dry, it will be smokeable and cured. After a week after that its even better. I will be watching for a smoke report..good work woman!!

You are entitle to be sad on that day but do things that would be in memory of her that will put a smile on your face as well. Sorry about the NL seeds, I have only used the paper towel method to germinate my seeds with 100% success rate in 3 days. I only have 2 left but when I get some more, I'll send you a couple.

Thanks CHIEF!!! It seems now that all these holidays are coming I am constantly reminded that I cant call my mom so yes I do talk to my plants and I also have some of my mom's ashes in a jar in my tent. She was a true Ganja Queen!!!

EDIT: I just submitted a message to the webmaster about changing the Mr. Ganja to Ms. Ganja. I went into contact and just submitted it, I hope they can change it for all you female growers. Mad respect for lady growers!!!!
