Defoliation, Your thoughts?

I found that when I trim a bunch of leaves a bunch of the smaller ones grow super fast to take their place lol. But the light hitting the bottom buds during that time turn them nice and dark green and they start to get fat and more covered in trichs. I also notice that the lower buds are ripe when the tops are, unlike they would be if they had been stuck down in the shade.

I also don't think it matters if you are growing 3'ers in your basement or 7'ers in the sun, if you get direct light to all of the budsites you're going to have a lot more nice bud...

I dunno, we'll see in the coming weeks wont we? :)

I'm so damn high right now, just took 3 rips of some hash from NYCD... wow...

THis glass of Seagrams VO on the rocks tastes pretty good too, first drink I've had in a couple weeks.. Or days.. I did have a drink on sturday I think but I'm not a big drinker anymore, just an occasional glass of bourbon now and then. Beer gives me insane headaches for some reason.

Not to change the subject or anything.. lol

Yeah, wounding your plants repeatedly by snipping all of those leaves is smarter than tucking them... They are there for a reason. They let you know when they are no longer useful. Healthy green leaves should never come off during flowering.

They should if they are throwing too much shade. :)

Alright buddy. Have fun. I'm done here. I bailed about 5 pages in on icmag too. If you can figure out my handle there you can get the rest of my opinion on the subject. I've wasted too much time in the past trying to save new growers from this dangerous advice.

Carry on...

I'm not new at growing "buddy" this is something I havent done and I am. Period. My grow, my way. Know what's funny though? Wasn't it you that said you didn't want to argue? Hmm nice way of showing it.

You also said it's meant for small scale and I also said that's what I'm doing. You must be atheist. ;)

I wasn't calling you buddy or referring to you at all. I'm just referring to the information. For every experienced grower experimenting with the technique, there are 10 new growers looking for a way to bump yields and stumble upon this info, only to ruin entire grows because their situation isnt right for this technique. This is dangerous info to have out there.

Dangerous? The only thing dangerous is the illegal grows aspect. This is far closer to beneficial than dangerous.

we know what he meant, don't we? a noob can't make the distinction of proper context and rips fan leaves off right and left, only to end up hurting his/her cause. noobs are impressionable, grow shops luv 'em.

I guess my ? is if you have a dense top canopy why would you keep the underlying leaves? In plants not manicured I find that leaves can be easy spots for pests to hang out once the leaves stop getting light and start to die. Imporoved air flow under the canopy is a reason to remove bottom leaves and light penetration is a reason to nip mid and top leaves. I don't rip off brand new leaves it's mostly those on the way out soon anyway. Again, I see much more foliage in there now that I have MH working with HPS in flower and there is definately a lot more leaves and less deeper penetraion of light. I think you can fix penetration probs with either a snip or a side light. snippin is cheaper and works well. I have records to prove the yeild increases. not as much as when I tried lolopoppping and top/FIM and train but still a little bump is a good thing and I get one from my species with my techniques in my garden. You and yours is a different story but I have data not jsut wives tails and shit I increased about 20 grams per plant (a plant takes up about a 1.5 to 2' x 1.5 to 2' footprint in my grow). meh, try or don't but if you don't you will never know for sure.

Nugs and his Mainlining is only one example of partial defoliation combined with training = pure rock colas. While defoliation as a technique may not be for everyone, summarily calling the method dangerous is clearly incorrect.

Many like to argue about a grow technique if it differs from what they themselves do.

That is a statement of opinion, clearly not of fact as evidenced by all of the info presented, including the Mainlining thread.

While this technique can be debated, the success of brother Nugs is pretty clear.
