I'm getting a new 400w cmh veg light. Which bulb is better the Philips CMH or the GE CMH?

I found this GE CMH package on HTG, but if the Philips bulb is better, then I prefer to get that... Does anyone know the difference between the 2? thanks!

The Philips is the only one that is open rated (no enclosure required). They were also first with the CMH IIRC. I'm running the Philips.

Hey wet...hows it goin?

I'm running the Philips now also... BUT does the GE work just as well?? Because the HTG package I'm looking at includes the GE one. IF the GE bulb isn't as good though, then I'd prefer to use Philips and just buy the ballast/hood separate. Here's the HTG CMH package: http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-HTGSupply-400-Watt-Ceramic-Metal-Halide-Grow-Light.asp#

No experience with the GE. I'm running an open hood (Adjust-A-Wing), so only the Philips was ever considered.

Do some reading on that site I linked. Loads of technical stuff there, not just marketing BS. I think they carry the GE also, not sure.

irun 2 x 250's
a cmh-philips
and a hps- eye hortilux
i luve the combination for covering the spectrum
i also throw in a uvb after weeek 3 of flower (helps when usein low wattage to increase trichs)

The GE is so new to the scene, *I* would be a bit hesitant. Can HTG do a deal without the bulb?

I have 2 of their PL-55 T-5HO's, but quit using their bulbs. Found better for the same $$$$ elsewhere. I like the quality of the fixtures, but not the bulbs. Seems like that's where they go cheap.

I don't know enough to comment on the differences, sorry.

Whats the difference, far as open enclosure rated? i was under the impression the glass just filters out the UV light. Which far as im concerned i want the plants exposed to.

I'll probably just get the GE bulb...i've been reading it has more output than the Philips. I read somewhere GE better for bloom and Philips better for veg, although not sure how accurate it is

Philips CMH are sound for growing, I use mine for veg and the plants love them, nice stocky bushes and seems to run cooler than mh or hps, however.... I use HPS for flower for more yield.

Check this out...in case anyone is interested... Not sure if it means anything or not... but found a place called Skynet that is making 1000w CMH ballasts. perhaps it's already out or about to come out

http://www.skynetlighting.com.tw/file/CMH/SHD-S1KW-2%20Spec.pdf --specs
http://www.skynetlighting.com.tw/file/CMH/ALL CMH Electronic Ballast LIST.pdf --picture of ballast

Can someone validate if this looks like it could be the correct ballast?
