Why not some 2' T5's on the cheap from menards/HD? Runs damn cool too.

I feel like a kessil would give you the same issues with intensity- along with a concentrated footprint.. and limited coverage.

DJ you should be fine letting you plants grow right into the light basically. The reason I need and use so much height is for coverage...If I could get closer and still get full coverage I would. I have thought about replacing my lenses with 50* and dropping them right on top then move it. Once you are in full flower the light will cover your whole space pretty much, even sitting literally right on top of your girls if need be.

Home depot and get a 2ft T8 fixture w/bulbs for $15. Since you only do a few beans at a time use a $5 clamp light with 1-2 household 6500k CFLs and works great and cheap as hell. That's what I use for small projects.

Apache is finally going to push the T8LED bulbs. They are talking about making a housing/fixture so no rewiring or retro fitting by the user is necessary. I want some official umol details on these but they look promising.

Hi guys. These lights look like the shit I must say. I'm really torn between Apache and A51. Wondering what you think would be best for vegging only. Never to be used for flowering. All white or w/b or w/r? Thanks.

Apache W:R 3:2 aka "R2's" if you listen to the videos. Best spectrum balance for both veg and flower
A51 doesn't currently come in other spectrums, although it sounds like that will be an option soon(ish).

While i agree these are mighty fine panels....they are a bit overboard for JUST veg in my opinion.

I don't have a huge issue with CFL/Fluoro, and I don't necessarily see intensity as an issue. 31W from an H150 would be plenty for the first two weeks and cut draw down to 25% for lighting. BUT I only have room for 2-4X at a time, and started in 1L AP's. I feel like I could cover 6x of the plants I have right now, veg through flower.

I haven't moved my light in a week, I just keep bending my ladies over. I will not be complaining about lack of coverage, and I recognize that I put the 5W panel in a small space.

My love for the R2 comes from my need for it to flower. I'll break down my apache spectrum thoughts a little more detailed.

-The R2's are the best to me because the way a light flowers is most important to me. And the R2 dominates in flower and difference in veg characteristics is negligible compared to how good it flowers.

The R1 is technically the perfectly balance spectrum light. It will do anything you need a light to do and do it good. I will be running a few R1's again to check my flower thoughts/findings against R2's.

The AT all whites work great for veg too. but if getting down to spectral aspects of different white's , since apache uses cool whites they don't have very much red in it...and thus isn't as balanced as their R1. A51 uses an outdoor white which is a little more red than Apache's, so each's current all white modes/models are different. All warm whites could achieve a similar spectrum to an Apache R1(cool white + little red), which is what EH of A51 said they were making proto's of(all warm white cree XT-E's) and saying it will go from start(veg) to finish(flower) great. and I personally think it will too.

Professor Greengenes(QuestForTheBestLED http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSlVMC1Jvec) thinks the (white/blue w/50*lens) is the best veg light. He also has flowered under only all whites and R1's and will choose those over blue/red any day.
PG's All AT cool Whites IMG_1366.jpg... my avatar is from this grow

I think if ONLY for VEG than choose R1 or All White...in that order. The R1 has the best potential for flower if you ever change your mind/needs while equal if not better in veg.

I have been thinking of grabbing some t8's for my veggie garden . Its too hot outside. I lost 4 lettuce and 2 broccoli plants to the heat. I water almost everyday.

Man, I've been wanting to see some details on the apache tubes since I saw them announced a while back on their facebook company page. Any idea when we'll get some info, like par #'s, spectrum, or price?
On a seperate note, how'd the harvest go?

That post was feb 2012 and they still haven't got them out and going. Apache is not getting back to me so I will just say what I think I know about the tubes...
$40 a tube and they are working on getting fixtures too but idk the cost for a whole 2-4 tube setup yet. I remember him saying around 300umols but I can't remember the height, I think it was 6". And something like 25 watts. I know they have white, blue, and red. I brought the idea of a UVB version up a while ago but who knows if that will come.

The tubes will do great on crops that don't need huge penetration. Veggies and herbs should go nuts with them.

As for my harvest it is down and curing. then the final trim and the results will be in. I think I will fall short of my goal. I was worried about how small the nugs were and they are definitely smaller than usual even compared to my last AT grow...but small as they may be, there is quite a bit so maybe it will surprise me. Smell and quality are there for sure though. Frosty and smells like a true grape strain, not musky berry how it was in the hydro system. Soil/my way is definitely a better smell...straight grape. I will finally smoke some this week and let you know on the taste and effects.

I am getting ready to start updating again for the next run/project.

Here's how I am going have it setup.
Two flower rooms. Big(normal flower room) and small(old veg room) and no more vegging.

Big room will have:
(3) 600w hps with big lemons under them as you guys saw get started flowering already
(1) AT480R2 with AceOfSpade in a 1/sqft SOG...if I ever get the light.
(4) AT120R2 with AceOfSpade in a 1/sqft SOG
(2) AT120R1 with a few Jillybeans topped and LST'ed.

Smaller room will be kind of like a side by side: (3-4) AT120's vs Indagro 420w/pontoon with all big lemon clones. normal topping style growing.
3 AT's would be close to equal total power consumption but I want to run 4 cause I know what that can do, and technically 4 is only 480w of light.
The clones were literally potted up today and will get vegged out till they are ready...probably a few weeks then fipped. Since I know how the AT's veg I will be vegging under the induction unless/till I need more light or space.

What do you guys think about that? I will make a new thread soon once it all is in place. I guess it will be my high efficiency lighting garden with the inducuction and HPS(600w are the best lm/w of the hps's) going too.

^^^^Sounds like some badass setups you'll have. Can't wait to see how it all plays out. Looking forward to seeing the AT480R2 and to see how you do with the induction+pontoon.

The induction will be an experiment. I have been seeing decent result and I like the pontoon more than anything. Also Professor Greengenes really likes it and went in for half with me so it was easier to give a shot. The small room will be a joint project between him and I. The big room is still all me but he will be around more now so I'm sure he will check in on that too. PG is the breeder of the big lemon and the BBS strains I ran/am running. And did the quest for the best led so you can check his skills.

"A" said he would call me today so we will see what's up with the 480 and I'll try and get more on the tubes

I'll be watching the US Open all today. Phil needs and deserves the win. Or I would love to see Folwer light it up again and get one. I'm getting excited for my major of the year, I just signed up for the US Am qualifier. It will be at a course I have some decent experience on, so I should have a good shot this year. Are any other growers, golfers too.

EDIT: The one thing I have already noticed is that the induction puts out some heat. Not sure if it is good or bad at this point, it's only been a day, but just something I noticed.

IIRC Chaz said the Pro420PAR was like 1400btu ??

Is it enough heat to see issues, or just noticeably warmer output than the AT120's?

I don't think the heat is too much just more than I expected. It is hot outside lately too.
It's pretty fucking bright. It lights up a lot of space. So I like that. Plus the spectrum shows that brightness is valuable and should translate to the plants nicely so I see good potential.

Poor Phil...I feel for the man. It will make Rose's career though so hats off.

On the tubes is that 300 umole/s per bulb or set? For $40 per tube is a lot! You can get t5 flora suns. For $14.99 each. With an 8 bulb. Hit around 1800 umole/s at 4 inches away. those are 54 watts each. Bulbs only last a year though.

It is per bulb. They might be less but $30-$40 is pretty standard price. He did say he wanted to get them out cheaper than others so we will see. I remember him saying something like 2X+ the umols as T5's but don't quote me. I will get the actual specs hopefully tomorrow(always a day away with them). Sometimes I wish I was a standard customer.

That's cool. T8's last longer than t5's and half the watts. So maybe match the same par rating as aquarium t5 bulbs. Fiji purples are $30 and uvl 660's are $25 plus freight shipping. That would be a good comparison grow. I have the aquarium set up. I'd be down to do a comparison grow journal :wink:

I have to relplace some flora suns. Money is going else where. I threw in my 5400k's from htg. They kick Ass in veg. They are doing great in flower combined with uvl redsuns and wave point coral waves. I'm pretty surprised that they are doing as well as they are. There is no spd for 5400k. I assume they might be tri phosphor. Now I'm starting to think they are full spectrum. Similar to neutral white led. I don't have a radiospectrometer. So I can't be certain. But results are great.
