Antics compares PlatinumLED P300 vs PlatinumLED P450

Hey everyone!

As I mentioned in my intro (here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/insert-witty-title-here.909663/#post-12620394 ) I've recently gotten into the whole LED growing, which I have found to be quite easy, using less power, and producing less heat.

I did a comparison on another forum, and there was a really great response, with a lot of folks happy to see an LED comparison (I still get PMs about it to this day), so I figured since I saw rollitup in a lot of my various interweb searches, that I'd hop over here as well and share the grow with you cool folks as well. (Plus the Cannabis community is seriously just filled with amazing people, and I like to help where I can)

I'm by no means a professional grower. I started out 3 years ago growing under CFLs, and slowly worked my way up to the world of LEDs.

So onto our grow:

We'll be growing in a divided Gorilla 2'x4' tent. Giving each plant a 2'x2' area to grow in. We'll have identical airflow, temps, RH, watering schedule, and nutes for both plants.
Ventilation and filtration will be handled with a Ventech 6" fan and filter.
We're growing in 7gal pots, each filled with 6gal medium.
Medium is my own blend of 4gal of basic bottom shelf soil, 1gal of perlite, and 1gal coco coir. (This will be the 5th grow on this medium)
Nutrients will be Humboldt County's Own, And we'll be using the full line of nutrients, with the exception of Purple Maxx, which won't be needed, as this strain isn't a specific purple.
The original plan was to use Jeraldean from Northwest Exclusive Genetics, but due to the family issues, I unfortunately had to abandon that grow, but we'll be growing Hammer of the Gods, also from Northwest.

And of course, I'll be comparing the PlatinumLED P450 against the PlatinumLED P300.
I always put the "challenger" on the left side of the tent, so we'll have the P450 on the left, with the P300 on the right.

I popped a handful of beans, and ended up with 2 females, one was shorter pheno, the other was a larger pheno. I took 4 clones from each, and we ended up with stronger growth from the taller pheno, so we'll be working with 2 clones from that mother. We revegged our flowering clones, our pistil growth has stopped, and we had a nice boost of veg growth the past 2 days.

The 2 strongest clones have a slight difference in height, On the P450 side we're looking at 5.25", and on the P300 side we're looking at 6.75". We're going to manipulate the heights of both clones by adjusting our lights accordingly, once both clones are at the same height, we'll continue with both lights at the same height.

I am currently charging up my camera for action, so when that's all set, I'll have pictures up today or tomorrow.

Have a good one fam. :leaf:

Here we are, 1 week later. I hope everyone is doing well!

We started the girls on their first nutes today. We are feeding the following measurements per gallon:
5ml Micro
7.5ml Grow
2.5ml Bloom
5ml Deep Breath
2.5ml Snow Storm Ultra
10ml Killer Tea

Both girls are still putting out a few pistils, so we're still seeing a bit of flower stretch, which isn't a problem, but I wanted to mention to keep everyone informed on what's exactly going on.

Here are our girls side by side, P450 on the left, P300 on the right:

Our P450 girl is sitting just shy of 10". 4" taller from last week.

Our P300 girl is sitting at 13". 7" taller from last week.

In our last update I mentioned changing light distance to manipulate the height of the clones, and we did just that.

I had set the P450 at 49" from the floor to light.Which is 40" from the light to the level of soil, and right about 30" from the light to the plant.

I had moved the P300 down to 41.5" from the floor to the light, which is 31.5" from the surface of the soil, and 20.5" from the light to the plant.

Being clones from the same mother, I would expected a similar increase in height, And with the differences in height, I was expecting to see a little more stretch under the P450, and a little less vertical growth under the P300. My best guess as to the cause, would be that the intensity of the P450 was much higher than I originally thought it was going to be.

***Now I'm placing the next decision of the grow, in YOUR collective hands. You're all growers like myself, and we all have different preferences.
If we run the lights at the same height, it looks like we're going to see an average height to bushy ratio under the P300, as some of you may have seen in the first comparison I did.
And I'm guessing we'll see a shorter, much bushier plant under the P450.

So what would you folks like to see? Should we continue running a different light distance to keep our plants at the same height, or should we even up the lights and let them do the rest?***

I'll check back in a few days and see what the majority says on the subject!

Have a great week everyone!

My vote is to keep the lights at an equal distance from the canopy. In a one light/one grow space grow we'd be relying on the distance from the canopy when adjusting the light... and unfortunately I'm a one (small) grow space grower :(

Well we seem to have a preference for equal heights, so ladies and gentlemen, I have moved both heights down to a distance of 20" from the top of both plants. We're looking at a distance of 2" in height between plants, which is shown in the picture as well.

I'll be out of town next week, so I'll do an update this Sunday, I leave Monday, and I'll be back on Friday, and will continue our regular updates.

I wasn't being negative. I'm being truthful.

You may have the good light. There is a company trying to ripp people off on amazon.
I may have misunderstood you. If so, I apologize. I saw those lights on amazon as well, but I really try to stay out of the lighting pissing matches. That's why I was just trying to move past your post, which again, I apologize if I took it the wrong way.

But enough of this seriousness, it's Friday, we all need to focus on enjoying the weekend. :bigjoint:

I'll have an update coming Sunday!

It couldn't possibly be said better. If it works, I support people doing it. Including CFLs, or T5 in your case. In the end, the quality of the meds are more important than the lights, nutrients, enclosure, etc.. Used to grow it.

I don't even care if it was grown by candlelight. If it's decent bud, I'd gladly sit down for a little sesh.

Glad we got things sorted too, have a great weekend! That includes the rest of you guys and girls too!
