QUOTE="Bait head, post: 12621478, member: 927205"]Res temp is 24 and I am unsure of the ambient air temp in the root zone I will have to check it and yes it's in Nft and there is no on off cycle and the water is on 24/7 and it is running at nearly the lowest setting..... Been and check again earlier and another plant has bit the dust :( here is a couple photos of the two dead plants[/QUOTE]

well for starters running your nft system 24/7 is probably drowning out your plants. I would immediately get a cycle timer that you can Set 1one minute on in 5 minutes off. you are basically drowning your plants also your temperatures are a tad High you should run around 70 degrees Fahrenheit which is around 21C

I see your point with a on off cycle but they have been fine up to now with it running 24/7 and I have an identical tank next to this one which is really thriving I will still get a timer and try a on off cycle and regarding the res temp how can I lower it ?

you can buy a res chiller or you could store your tank in a cooler room that is dark and cool. Your pump should be able to handle that if its large enough.

I really wish I could sit the tanks out in a different room but unfortunately the way these nutriculture NFT systems are that the tray sits on top of the tank as one unit so that is out of the question and regarding a nutrient chiller I just don't have the money to buy one yet.... So so far I am going to add Calmag and super thrive tomorrow when they arrive put my pump on a timer and continue to use pythoff every four days

You can run 24/7 and thrive but you really need to be chilled.

I hate to be a downer but from my experience this run is done unless you can chill that water right now or you can get something in there to fight the root bacteria. Even then there will be a lot of stress on them but its worth a shot.

You want that system to run right you need to run that rez @ 12-18c at all times with two air stones from a big pump i prefer alita but just start with the chiller until you can get the air pump it would be fine without.

A 1/10 chiller brand new is $264 on amazon. That is really not that much to invest when it can be the best thing for a hydro system.

You can use wort chillers and a small cooler and use that chiller to chill multiple systems veg area with moms etc all at once.

There are guys who run without chiller that add different stuff to the rez you can look into that but i went the chiller route and love it. Either way you're gonna have to do one or the other to get good grows.

Ok thanks for the replies guys I am going to go the chiller root but my only problem is I have two tanks that need chilling can I connect the both together and have a intake to chiller from one and the outlet chiller to the other tank will that work or can I use a t piece in the pipe work from the chiller to do both at the same time what do you guys think ?

The way i run my chiller is i have a small cooler with water that gets chilled. In that cooler i have a pump that runs to chilling worts that are used to make beer (around $30-40 each) in each rez. This way the chiller only has to cool a small amount of water and the pump to the chilling worts runs 24/7.

You could probably put a T on both the in and output it just depends on the size of the chiller and how much water if it will keep it chilled.

If you go the chilling wort route the chiller wont run as much.

Just to add: the 25ft stainless worts are plenty for a rez up to 30 gallons imo

Okay I have done some work in the room tonight pulled off all the old leaves clean the room out and added pythoff a dose of cal mag and super thrive put Myla over the exposed rockwool cubes I have then put the inlet pipe sucking from outside to directly over both of my res tanks blowing into the water and within about 30 minutes it had dropped 2° so I am now sitting at 21.9 hopefully after checking in few hours it will continue to drop I have also added some pictures of the root zone mainly where it drops off the tray back into the reservoir please have a look and confirm if I have the dreaded root rot or not please consider I am using very dark nutrients so this may make it look browner than what it is I think or I hope the last picture looks the worst

Oh I and I reduced the water pub to literally just a trickle and stupidly I have had my heater on when the lights were off the whole time so I have now removed the heater altogether

Thats root rot badd im sure it smells like a fish tank.

When are you getting the chiller?... You need it real soon.

Im not sure what the plants will do in flower but in veg ive dropped plants that had rot in chilled water and they would freeze in size for a week or two and grow all new roots.

I agree but i would throw a chiller on it, couldnt hurt.

If he has more clones ready to go then i would scrap everything for sure and break out the dishwashing liquid and sponge.

Dam that was not the news I wanted to hear that it's definitely root rot with my adjustments last night my res temps are now at 19° and yes unfortunately I am in flower there is no way I am just going to chop them down I really hope I can get over it and and try and get some new root growth to start can I kill this root rot ? do you think it is possible for them to carry on ? Also if my temps stay at 19 do you think I still need a chiller?

I see too much dead organic material in your res. Lots of little pieces of leaves, that's a big part of your problem. Your providing an excess source of food for bacteria. You need to keep the res clean. You running any bennies? I run hydroguard, I've used it at 4x the rec dose, around 2ml/L, to deal with root rot. Cleaned it up in about a week, takes time for it to colonize the roots. After that I run it at 0.5ml/L. I saved a run at wk 5 with it after my pumps failed, didn't yield great, but it finished and was still good smoke.
