18/6 big waist of time

Mr I Can Do That For Half
12/12 from seed will never be on my list of things to do as I know it effects the total yield if your growing full adult plants as your forceing an immature plant to flower before it is developed so yield and quality are hurt. its like a 12 year old who gets pregnant. it can be done but is dangerous and the baby isnt usually as healthy and more at risk... Roots do fine as long as they are in the dark and thats all the plants need. Root bound is a true effect but can be maintained and used by a grower as long as enough space for the size plant is given. FDD grows big plants but also remember if his were in the ground in good soil with his knowledge they would be even bigger and yield more with all the extra root space.

I have more succes in 24/7.
I think the heat from the lights makes the roots grow faster and makes them grow more.
They grow faster when they get more light. They dont grow so much in the dark period.
They already proved that 24/7 is better. They dont strench as much.

I've ran 18/6 and 24/0 and I think 18/6 gives you taller plants, but 24/0 gives you fuller plants and a bigger yield.

18/6 will cause the plants to stretch during the dark time, which might give the illusion the plant is bigger, but it just means the distance between the inter-nodes is bigger. Regardless of which veg cycle you choose, they will shoot up when you switch to 12/12. If you let sativa dominant plants get too tall during veg, they will grow extremely tall when flowering, or at least the first few weeks of flowering.

The detirmining factor for me is energy use. Frankly i went 18/6 with my first go (bagseed) and 24/0 with my second batch (BlackJack), and really saw very little difference except in my electric bill. Therefore, i rock the 18/6 merely cuz iam on a tight budget (same reason i have t5's in a kloset instead of a proper hps/tent setup).

what about when you grow from seed? ive read a few things that say 18/6 increases the female ratio, among with other things such as a higher humidity and lower temps, I have never tested these personally, read it in Jorge Cervantes book. i have done 24/0 in the past and the growth rate was amazing. was just wondering in the rare case you grow from seed and have to worry about females and males. 24/0 is great but would it outweigh the lower female ratio?

I read the study too, or a similar one? And it tested for final yield with plants vegged ar diffeterent cycles.
Anyways, the results showed that lowering ur light cycle gradually yielded the most, but only some insignificant gms..

it wasnt enough for me to change my style of 24/0.
However, since then I have actually converted to 18/6 for overall plant vigor and vitality.
IMO 24/0 of ur commercial, dont need the hassle and arent concerned bout overall plant health. And thats not a bag out, I used 24/0 for years its all good, but 18/6 iffor happier ladies.
Well put. All of those have their advantages and disadvantages, although none of them are clearly superior. All those combos will work, and work well, it's up to us to decide what fit's out own particular situation. I focus my effort on plant health, rather than photoperiod. That's what's most important, IMO. :)

What's up? Ive recently been testing this. I have found, in my conditions, at 18/6 i tend to have more vertical growth due to the plants looking for light during the dark period but less stretch when flipped to 12/12. At 24/0 my plants tend to grow bushy, shorter and stout with very tight spacing of nodes. Also at 24/0 i found i can keep my light (400w hps) farther away which reduces the temp change between the day and night when flipped to 12/12. When the stretch is over i then start lowering the light. The fact is they both work. Whatever works best for your situation. Peace and one love.
