1000 Watts Bring The Cops?

I was worried about this but I am going to be kickin out one of my roomates here soon and don't want to take the chance of him goin to the police so I am starting a garden with my lights for awhile. Got Peppers, Tomatoes, and Cucumbers. I have a 400 w MH/HPS setup and I am gonna leave em on 24/7 just to get an estimate of how much it's gonna cost me to run em when I do start back up, meanwhile I wont haveta worry about the cops cause even if they do show up I wont have anything to hide. I was at a store the other day and this guy has 10,000 watts of lighting running through out the place. It was crazy he says it cost him about 600 a month to run em all

We had some type of instant, over the electric wire meter installed last year. Another job lost, poor meter reader..... I am running a 400 MH 18/6 off @ midnight on @ 6am, two 1000w HPS 12/12. one on @ 6pm off @ 6am, the other comes on roughly 10 min, later and off 10 min later. They are in same room...... I haven't had anyone question the increase in usage. I do however live in a 4 bedroom home and have read that my usage falls within normal useage......????.....

I know of one time when the RCMP came around about power usage.. But it wasn't about growing.. A guy I know who lives in Thunder Bay (pretty north) was expecting his grand daughter for the early summer, so he cranked his electric pool heater to the extent that he more than tripled his normal bill for more than a month.. Around the moddle of July he came home for lunch and 2 plainclothes approached him being quite upfront, and asking to look around as he went in.. They didn't present a warrant, so I don't know if they had one, but he let them in..

What the fuck happen then, with your unfinished fucking story?

There are points where red-flags pop up at the power company.. I know the math is based on both your average bill, and the average of similar homes, but thats all I know.. You gotta be pretty insane to hit those lines though.. Quite a bit more than doubling anyways, that I know from many experiences.. Especially back in school, with alot of ppl living together hippy style, bills could fluctuate a ton.. But like I said, it took more than tripling the normal usage of a 4 bdrm house instantaneously to bring anybody around..

I can't positively say it took quite that much to trigger the alert, all I know is thats what the pool heater did to his usage stats..
And like I said, other student houses I knew in the same city fluctuated alot.. Ppl would move in and out, and once my buddy actually showed me that he was exactly double his previous bill.. (The acct was in his name, and its worth mentioning that this was a 7 bdrm commune..) But things like that didn't trip anything.. Perhaps the difference was that this house always had irratic bills, where as the 4 bdrm was typically extremely consistent with a single giant prolonged increase..

Edit: And the irony is there were always a few hobby pot plants in the 7 bdrm place.. It was the kind of place where you could find an ounce of dope easier than an ounce of soap..

your pretty quiet after dropping that ridiculous line-just to clarify:you had a 400 in your closet, a squadron of cops armed with pistols started opening fire into your pad..and then what??

Its absolutely possible to end up with the cops around when you're only running 400W, but the cause is bound to be sloppy stupidity, not power flags..

sorry bro-theres no way your going to have cops at your door for running a 400. 400 watts is like having your bathroom lights on with the fan running.

No no, trust me, you can have a 13W cfl running, and if you're shooting your mouth off, or being stupid in any other way, the cops might come around..
A 400W hps light leak sticks out like a sore thumb a 1/4 mile away..

the hydro community isnt just made up of bud growers-alot of people grow vegetables indoors. They're not going to risk the lawsuits from storming peoples houses because of a bright light in the window.Especially from a 400.
Unless you live in Saudi Arabia or something..

I can't agree on that.. Sadly legitimate indoor gargening isn't prominent enough to calm suspicion.. They probably wouldn't storm your house, but they'd look into it further and get the evidence they need to go at you with a warrant.. One major reason why its important to keep all your curtilage P's and Q's in order.. Anything incriminating in your garbage, odour leaks, suspicious traffic etc. can do you in at that point.. IMO, if they're already paying attention to you, you're already busted unless you clean house properly before things come to fruition.. Remember they don't know how big/small your grow may be, because hydro usage needs to be so extreme to be a determining factor..

thats a little contradicting-lets say they did get the warrant-(for a 400?!..)theyd know your electricity usage(and would be able to estimate the size of your grow-in this case, a very minor operation-they would laugh and throw it out right there.Theyre going after large grows dude-multiple thousands of watts-i.e. grow houses, warehouses, etc..
