  • HI! I just saw the firs picture of your electric setup and it's great! I noticed that you have lumatech electronic ballast and I read on their web page that you mustn't mount them closer then 6 inch together and not to blow air in them. Just Reminding. Maybe I'm wrong but nothing hurts if I tell you.

    My question ist: If I cutt my ballast output cable (to bulb) in half or more will I get more lumens?

    Is it possible to use a pools' 60 amp subpanel to supply electricity? I would be interested utilize the filter's 240 circuit as long as the pool filter timer is set for a different time as the room's lights. (there are also two other 20 amp circuits). Currently the filter's circuit is on a mechanical timer built into the control box. Possible this timer could be set to " on" all the time, but with the power diverted by two other timers that would be on at different times of day. WHat would be the easiest way to divert this circuit in two different directions? The filter is currently hardwired into the circuit.

    hi brick, im in australia with 240v, i was planning on running all of this from the one power point: 3x 600w hps(with a 4 GANG RELAY POWERPLANT LIGHTSAFE CONTACTOR 13 AMP) ,4x 4ft x 1ft double fluro shades, 200mm inline fan, 3x 150mm inline fans, 3 water pumps, 3 air pumps, 3 oscillating wall fans plus a couple of other bits and peices. now i already know the answer to this question but will all of this overload the circuit and what is the easiest way aroung this. thank you in advance hope to hear from you soon. and sorry i dint write all the wattages and power consumption details.
    Hey I left a post in thread, but in case it gets lost in the thread....I was wondering if you could tell me if a 15 amp breaker is ok for my cabinet? My cabinet is the only thing on this circuit. I have a heavy duty 100' extension cor running to cabinet from a single outlet right beside my panel. I have a heavy duty power bar on cabinet with the following...

    250watt ballast
    130cfm squirrel cage exhaust fan
    1 * pc fan wired to an adapter
    1 * 6" circulation fan
    two small air pumps (aquarium size)

    Hey BT! Your priceless man thank you for all the info you have put out and the help you have given everyone! I would like to run some plans by you.. Im getting ready to set up a new grow.. (6) 600 watt hps (4) 8 bulb T5 435 watts each (2) Inline 100 Fan and Filter Combos fyi these damn things are heavy! lol Approx 200 watts each. (2) 42 bucket ebb n flow type system the ones with a controller and one pump with a 50 gal res. Then of course some fans and little things.. I heard running 220 would be the best to conserve power but how would I run 220?

    i was wondering if you could direct me to a link or any info that would help me wire some new lines to my room in one of my houses... right now 3 (1000w HPS) lights is on along with other fans, o2 pumps, water pumps, timers.. 1st 1000w is powered from an extension cord from another room. and the other 2 are from the 2 sockets in the room.. different circuits im assuming... the circuits in the breaker box are 15 amps... is there any possible way to wire up a couple more 1000w from other rooms without using all these extension cords?

    The issue is I have 4 resevoirs that I want to monitor! The typical practice is to buy 4 of these but at $200 a whack I'm searching for a cheaper alternative! I was wondering if I could build a switchable terminal block that four sets of leads could be plugged into and then that terminal block plugged into the one monitor screen. Then to monitor the four resevoirs I would just turn a four position dial/switch. Is that doable and if so where would I get the parts to do it?

    hey bricktown- saw ur post about electrical help on setting up a growroom, and i thought maybe u could help me out. I usually grow outdoor, but I dont want to wait till summer, so I'm settin up a little growbox in my house. Its pretty small, 2.5'x2.5'x3.5', but I have no clue how to go about giving it some airflow -whats the cheapest way I could wire somethin up for this, and smell really isnt too much of a problem cus my roommates know and its just one plant

    Question about adding a capacitor in an HPS ballast setup. Seen a couple diagrams drawn up putting a motor run capacitor in parallel with the common and 120v hot right off the power source plug. Is this proper and safe?

    For instance, assuming the correctly sized MF capacitor rated at 330vAC is in the circuit, what happens if the power is on to the ballast and there is no bulb in the socket? Will this screw the capacitor up? Or if the bulb burns out, will there be a problem if power is still being supplied? Just concerned about fire potential or hot oil exploding everywhere should something unexpected happen to the bulb or capacitor itself.

    Are these diagrams correct and safe (assuming right components are used)?

    Hey Brick Love your posts and your picture,...I am trying to get as many pictures a panel set ups as I can, and by far yours is the most organized and neat. Can you make a post explaining each piece and its function and why you choose it. Plus I would love to see how you have you fans set up and your light exhaust and intake/outake fans,....I really appreciate it,...I am a newbie with some friends helping me, but from what I have seen they lack any skills when it comes to electrical and I want to learn. Any ideas on where I can best learn? Thanks brick
    hey bricktown thanks for offering your help that is awesome im wondering if you could let me know everything i need an how to do it for building a 250 watt hsp ballast? I know there not real expensive but i found a store with all kinds of used transformers an all kinds of odd an ends that i could do this for cheaper also think it will be cool to build my own thanks for any repley
    Hey brick, my friend has a license and ready to get going on a 9x8 space for flowering. This is an appartment bedroom and has a window. He is legal so no worries at all other than a certain discretion for safety reasons. He needs a room design and the electrical set up would be the best place to start I think. Safety first right? He is short on cash but I can tell you what we have to work with and see where it could take us. Think you would have the time to help out? He has to get the room set up within the next week so any reply, even if you can't help right now is fine. Let me know I can provide details on what equipment he currently has to work with.

    i got a ballast ( not sure what kind) says 600 v 1500 watts, i have a 400 watt metal arc bulb in it , just bought it , only turned it on for 15 seconds to see if it worked, question is if i run it as is will it a)burn my house down?b) bust my ballast? c)blow the bulb? And if those are inevitable what would you recommend short of a 1500 watt bulb? would greatly appreciate any advice!!!!
    hi, sorry to bug you personaly but i have a problem, i have built a stealth box with a cfl setup, i have 2 4by4inch cpu fans how do i wire them, do i need a converter, do they sell little converters, or is there a way to wire them into my cfl set up that is built into the box, i wanted to just wire them to a outlet plug but they will blow im stumpted. can you help..?

    In the past with my grows i have run everything off a standard household 110v wall outlet. I usually run about 1 400w HPS and a small fan, possibly a humidifier. Typically I have all of these plugged into a power strip with a surge protector on it, which is connected to an exrension chord which plugs directly into the wall. Im planning on running 2 400w HPS this grow a few fans, possibly a small space heater, and im only goign to be able to check the grow every other day for the most part. Im concerned about the safety...Is this a fire waiting to happen? or is it safe to run a small amount of wattage off one outlet? Im running real low on the budget, but i would rather not grow at all then burn my house down! Thanks VERY much!

    Hi and thanks for the offer of help.

    I have aquired 2x HPS lights and im wondering how best to utilize them.

    They came with MH bulbs so the first question is, can they take the HPS bulbs i intend to buy ?

    On the Ballast, it says 250w, i assume that is the max the ballast can handle and trying to put a bigger bulb in would not work or damage the ballast.

    Since those lamps are quite heave im wondering if it is all right to remove all electronics from the lamp and rewire the connection from ballast to bulb to increase lenght and allow for cooltube setup.

    How can i tell if the ballast is 'Electronic' or the old type (whatever that is called).

    How can i tell if the ballast is HO (High Output) and so determine if a HO bulb would be an improvement.

    Hi. I am taking you up on your offer to PM you. I use a UPS battery backup for my 396gph pumps in case of electrical outage. It is now time to replace the batteries. It take two small (motorcycle battery size) batteries, 12V, 7amp ($33 each). Can I instead use a big RV deep cycle battery instead? Longer life, etc. What about the charging circuity of the UPS and matching that to the batery? Is it enough that they are both 12V? Thanks. HBH
