  • Hi im doing a small 5'x3'2' cabinet and i need to know if i should get a 400w or a 600w MH light Im worried about the heat.
    Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me out please. I don't know anything about electrical and I am having an electrician wire some lights. I want to run 4x 1000W HPS lights from one box with a timer. I want another box exactly the same with a different timer. So I will be running a total of 8 1000W HPS Lights. What type of cable should he be buying? Is there a outlet junction box like this? These will all be running 220v power cables. He is asking me what kind of box do I want. What do I do?

I’m based in England and have a quick question for you. I don’t have any outside power in my grow shed, yet. However I do have a sewage treatment plant (septic tank) next to my grow shed which is powered from my house, it has its own breaker on my fuse board. I want to take a connection from my sewage treatment plant power junction box. I have attached a photo of the junction box. Which side should I make my connection the pump or blower side? I was thinking the pump side as it has an earth. Is there a way of connecting my new wires to the existing wires without have to cut the cables?
I’m planning on connecting 125cfl, 400watt hps and my extraction fan.

    Thanks in advance
    Aidan

Hey man, I'm an electrican too. It's cool you're on here helping people with their wiring issues and helping prevent them from burning their houses down. No doubt I'll be following your thread.
Hello Bricktown, Are you still helping people with wiring project? I believe mine is simple. I just want to wire "a little grey box time" to control 4 220v putlets. for flowering I wasn't sure if I needed relays for the outlets? WE do not have the best power out where I live.
I will be running 600w MH / HIS. Yes I have wired before and have 4 220v single outlets wired to a double pole 220 breaker for vegging.
Err...I've been reading and it seems that L is the live wire and N the netral. So don't you need a ground wire anywhere?? Also can the socket for the lamp be wired in any order? It's a screw in socket for my bulb.
    Hey there bricktown!

I really need some help if you've the time. You see I have finally gotten my hands on a 400w ballast, HPS bulb, ignitor and socket. Only problem is I have 0 electrical experience!

I'm sure it's an easy problem, I simply need to connect everything together, but I would feel much better knowing I'm doing it right.
Here's a link to a diagram similar to the one my ballast:
    http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/2120/ballastm.jpg

So do I run the wire with the L to the wall plug (power)?
Then run another cable into the ignitor, and then have two coming off it into the HPS socket?
What does the N wire mean?

    Thanks!
Hey Bricktown, i want to plug in 2 x 200 w Cfl's , 1 x 100mm inline fan and a 100mm oscillating fan into one plug socket. just wanted to know how safe that would be, its a 13A Socket running to a 6 gang adapter.
hey bricktown, I see you are a very experienced electrician, and I have a few important electrical questions. #1 Do i need to ground my wall socket if I am going to be running close to 15 amps of ballasts on it, and then my second question is, with a standard breaker from an old house, and standard wall sockets can I run 240v ballasts? Or do I need to upgrade my breaker and or wall sockets? PLEASE respond. I have been a hydroponic gardener, and an outdoor gardener for over 5 years, and have worked at a hydroponic store and can answer any questions that you have. I would love to hear your response. Please respond on my page, just leave me a message. Thank You!
Hey bricktown, I would be totally stoked if you could help me out on a few real electrical questions. I am inquiring about the benefits of grounding my wall socket, how to run 240v ballasts, and if I am going to need an electrician to come over, or if i can run 240v off of a standar socket. I would be glad to answer any questions you have, as I am an experienced hydroponic gardener. I would love to hear what you say, as I know you are a very experienced electrician, and probably a good gardner as well.
    Brick,

I need your help and i see you are experienced electrician. I am planning on using a total of 18 100 watt CFLs plus a 150watt HID light system. I will also be using a 6" Can fan, 2 regular fans, an air purifier, and i am planning on plugging all this into my wall socket in my bedroom. Please let me know if this is safe and if its not safe can you please explain how i could make it safe.

    Thanks man!
well i read your message about PM you and getting a faster response. So im hitting you up on here. I was wondering if you had any opionions on 1000w digital blast? what effect would it have on my electricity bill? is it worth getting?
Hi. Is there any electrical system that does not consume too much electricity? What's the best way to maximize your room and save on electric bill at the same time? Thanks.
    Quick question
I got bout 10 of these for free and was wondering what the exact wattage is , as there's 2 diff listings
    It states watts 550
    Type. 250hps
    Hey brick : P
    About to finish my first grow room = 1.8m x 1.0m x 0.5m
Using 400w MH & HPS bulbs (1 for veg/1 for flowering)
After sum research it seems that all I need is 40 CFM extractor (does that sound right) and will I have to create a vacuum seal inside the grow box?
All up will have 1 400w bulb/extractor fan/intake fan of some description working
Would I be close to blowing fuses (think it's 4.5 Amp fuse for that section of house)?
Quick electrical questions: Can I run a 70w MH ballast and a 150w HPS ballast on one plug with just one Capacitor? Or would it be safer with for both to have their own? How would the wiring be different? I know you don't NEED a cap with lamps this small, but I want to be efficient. Also I'm doing my entire grow on one circuit so the less amps pulled the better.
    Hey Bricktown73

Whee can I find pictures of your grow room?..in particular your carbon filter installation.....
I happened to read one of your previous posts regarding seed purchase in th US. I live in the states as well and have been concerened about seed purchase - were you able to locate a supplier?...and who have you used or can you reccommend a source?

    Thanks,

    usJman
It would be great if you answered these questions on this visitor message wall, maybe start another account. A lot of good questions.
Whadup brick I gotta give you props for startin this thread, very cool, Anyway my question is kinda two fold but basically I was wondering if its possible/safe to turn a standard 120v ac closet ceiling light fixture into a 120v ac power outlet if you add a ground to the wiring that is already there,of course I would have to add the outlet itself but that kinda goes without saying. Is this wise or am I just beggin for a fire? If so then how hard is it to add a dedicated breaker that would run to one maybe two standard 120v outlets? I know how to do the outlet end of the job and how to run the wires and stuff but I have never really fucked with breaker boxes before is this something you can help talk me through or do I need to look at hiring an electrician under the table?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
