Cool find. But I hope your spare room has 10-12 foot ceilings. Your right on the 4-5 ft. distance. We have a 1500 in the greenhouse with the bulb and reflector mounted at about 11 ft. I am 6 ft. tall and I cannot stand directly under very long without the top of my head getting hot as hell! Unbelievable heat emitted from these bulbs. Better get 2 airboat fans! LOL keep us updated! Also you know you could fire 2-750 watt bulbs with this ballast. It would make it much more usable in an indoor enviroment.

yessssssssssssss.... i was just talking about that with a friend.. im going to do away with the whole fixture, just get the ballast and other needed items and i was thinking exactly that.. just run them series and i can actually have 2 whole 750 watt fixtures.. easier to cool i imagine

*drools* I want a couple of those in my 5' x 6' area. I think 4 would do nicely, starting at about week 3 of flowering.

Seriously though, you should look into adapting it to an air-cooled reflector somehow. There has to be a way, I would think?

Good deal. It would be almost unusable with a single 1500 in an average room with 8 ft ceilings. A few things to consider:
1. Be sure to use sealed, aircooled hoods. Open bulb is a no no when firing bulbs in series. One bulb blows the remaining bulb get a strong surge briefly, running the risk of exploding the remaining bulb burning.
2. I wouldnt try to fire 1 MH and 1 HPS. Use 2 of one or the other. The mix and match can once again cause issues.
3. Once you get it apart you find it to be 'mutitap'. Meaning it may be able to be wired at 220 and even 480. Just look at the writing on the internal wire. You probaly already know this though.
Have a blast with the blaster and def start a journal pal. It would be a huge hoot to follow! good luck and happy trails.........

^No doubt man, I wanna see the bud density that thing produces. Keep those plants around 3' tall, and even the popcorn buds should fill out pretty well. Use a little LST to spread open the foliage....*drools some more* Add some CO2....*drowns in drool*

im thinking a month down the road is when you should expect a grow journal, this grow that i just started 4 days ago is my first.. (growing under t5's) so as soon as i get this light set up i will start the journal. i dont think people wanna see my crappy 2 foot 4 bulb t5 grow in a closet. but i know 2x750watt hps lights in a 10 by 10 room with 20 plants will be something worth posting.

^Do you plan on using a light mover? Two 750's won't cover that much are, about half. I've never seen a 750, but a 1000 is good for anout 5' x 5', so I can only assume that a 750 will be a little less than that.

At any rate,...you should still take pics every week, to show your veg progress. News guys like to watch veg, because it gives them an idea what to expect, should they happen to be using a setup similar to your's. Even if you don't start the journal til week 4, you could still post the veg pics, to show how the babies started out in life.lol

your right, i will do that. ive taken pics so far so eventually the journal will be a complete seed to bud (if i make it!) haha

as for the light mover, no i will not. if i have to i will just shrink the room size. I dont want to get that involved unless i truely need the item to succeed or if i do succeed and the movers would truely enlighten my yield.. for now i just have to get a grow under my belt.

I would stake out a 8x8 or so area in the middle of the room. Even shorten the growroom ceiling 8-10 inches below the actual ceiling. Access from all sides for both tending and cooling. Maybe a few movable panel for directing light inside the area. Light it up!

Now that we are on the subject of more lighting, I would like to mention that while I was enjoying that extravagant #1 skunk on Vancouver Island the most I could get out of them was that they use 2000w/hps, where I use 1000w/hps per 36 square feet. They wouldn't part with a seed or even a snip. I bought a lot of skunk before I finally found one lone seed.

What light spectrum is the street light?
well oddly enough the fixture does not say what spectrum the light emits, i would guess its very close to what a 600 or 1000 emits, i dont see why it would change? hps emits 2100k unless you get horticulture its 2050k..

unless im mistaken :-(
please dont tell me its no good.

and my shitty light meter from lowes is no good, i dont even understand the reading on it, its not kelvin and it dont tell you what it is.

It may not be idea (the bulb you have) for growing but should be still acceptable. Especially getting a couple of 750's, then you will have some choice.
