Hi everyone,
Thank goodness there is the internet!!. I'm the new kid on the block. My personal relationship with my pastime became a marriage when I picked up "THE BEST OF HIGH TIMES BEGINNER'S GUIDE" at my job of all places and really got this feeling to take it a notch higher with getting high. I recently decided to build my own growbox but I'm a little overwhelmed to keep it real. I did some websurfing and came up with my some info and scrapped this list of items that should get me started

Potting mix with fertilizer

4 5gallon buckets

2 ez clamp lights(the ones with the reflector behind it)

2 150 watt phillips plant lights

I can't find mylar right now so I'm going with aluminum foil pan lids( they seem harder than conventional aluminum foil sheets)

1 can of white paint

2 pieces of 2ft 2in by 2ft 2in medium grade fiber board for the base and lid

4 pieces of 3ft 2in by 2ft 2in m.d.f. for the sides

thats it for right now if any one knows what else I need I'd be very grateful. I'd also like to know how do i install a fan in my box and what would you suggest. I know its alot but I really would like to pursue this its taken an almost artistic hold on me. The whole planting, hard work, highs and lows and eventual 2ft cola I would hope to grow has me excited. Thank you all for your time.

also try to keep temps lower then 85 ideal is 72 and humidity should be between 40% -60 % the higher you go you run into problems like SPIDER MITES or in flower moldy buds in flower shoot for the fortys

I duno what kind of seeds you have, but 3' may be on the short side...if you can you may want to make that 4' to be safe. Also as for the lights, are you using fluoros? if so make sure you get the 6500k (blue spectrum) for the veg and 2700/3000k (red spectrum) for the flowering. You can order 2 105watt spiral fluoro's online for like $20 a piece and they will be equivalent to like a 250watt incandesent...so with 2 of those you will get more lumens and use less energy then 2 150w incandesent. They stay pretty cool so you can keep them about 2" from the plant, but like the other guys said make sure you have decent ventilation. Lastly...you may want to mix some perlite in with that soil to give the roots some more air, and make sure you monitor pH (soil pH meter at lowes for like 8.95) hope this helped...good luck

Just buy a tent! You'll thank me. Then get a 400 watt switchable mh/hps form the hid hut. Get a digital. Then get a charcaol filter and a fan. Get all this and dont buy useless junk. Lol, thats where all your money will go. Thats where all mine went.:) It will cheaper like this in long run. Also a tent you can always take down.

yea dude those 44w+ cfl blubs have a larger base ... you will need to make the part of the reflecter wider at the bottom .. are you going to use the clip on part or just hang them verticle ???

I'm loving this,. I think I might've stumbled on to a new reflective material for the insides of my grow box. It sounds crazy but if you have it to lose check out a box of Kellogs POPS the bag that contains the cereal has seemingly good reflective properties. Now I know I'm new to this so I don't know if it could take heat but hopefully some of you guys that are veterans could check it out.

Just making sure, you are saying I can use the ez clamp reflector lamps with the 105 watt spirals right? I plan to hang them over the plants

well if you unscrew the reflector from the bulb fixture
you can hang it with out the reflector ... or just feed the power cord back through the reflector and let the bulb just kind of float inside of it ...
if you understand what im saying

no the thing is that the ez clamp reflector lamps I have don't have the same base as those spirals so while I was looking for the spirals I saw that mogul to medium base converter. It basically seems that it will let me run my spirals in my existing EZ clamp reflector lamps. Now I'm currently germinating, how do I install the fans? I'm new to all of this building but I'm trying to keep up with my drive, the part that is confusing to me is how I would install the fan I'm thinking of putting one in the top and two one for each side. How would I SET THAT UP? Thank you everyone and a special shout out to 420

P.S. 420 What is the big gray spring looking thing in your pic

lol well it doesnt sound like you ahve the same 7 dollar clamp reflectors i bought ...
fans should be set up to give a slight breeze on all your plants ... you have to see what location will work the best ..

for the exhaust the vent should be at the top of the room ... and a fan in the duct pulling air out of the room

in my pic .. i think your seeing my reflective mylar on the wall ;)
