Are cobs worth it?

in a few areas around the country they are banning hid lights for growing
No there not. Sadly the number one one reason is because led/cob lighting doesn't have a strong hold yet. All you have to do is walk into a gardening store and see what they sell for lamps.

yes they are its creeping in a few silly places. local legislators are becoming concerned about fire hazards, BHO sky rockets, unsafe grow houses etc. Its not a ban on selling hid lights, its targeted at grow houses.

And they find out your a grow house how?
Helicopters with FLIR in my area, they slowly circle neighborhoods looking for heat signatures, and I'm in a med state. As soon as the weather got nice here they started up,later in the summer they will be looking for outside grows with the copters.

That's easy to enhance since the uva/actinic blue requirement is low. BUT not absolutely needed, cause flowers grown under cobs are pretty dammed frosty as is.

if your talking about UVB/UVC, hids don't put much if any in the canopy because of the protective UV blocking glass.

So YOU STOP THAT
Who uses glass...lol...my reflectors are open air and I use a 14,000 BTU air conditioner to cool.

wa state is forcing 90% of the medical dispensaries closed and forcing most real medical growers, providers into the underground.

prohibition has been reborn even before prohibition ended.

Yeah the max is 12 per household no matter what, they are getting stricter and stricter , next step is to just outlaw home grows.

Yea its not like that in California. Every single house has an out door grow here. I mean every single house. FLIR with no warrant?

I think purplebuz is referring to the bulb glass itself. From the last time I checked there are a few (unprotected arc tube) cmh that allow uv transmittence.

280-315, those super blue mh are known for increased UV light so I don't understand why you insist on arguing? Maybe you just cant help defend LEDs, but you are wrong in this case :(
I was talking about UVB and UVC that's all I agree the bulb combos you listed have UVA,actinic blues. and I agree that cobs don't have anything in those ranges. but just like you can supplement HPS with a MH, leds can be supplemented with any of those missing wavelengths and do it with at least an overall energy\heat saving over 30%.

so whos defending what and just what am I wrong about ?

I supplement my LEDs with UV-B light, I got a 18% phosphor boost UV-B light for my LEDs and also have far red in my LEDs, COBs are cool, but they got a ways to go before they are better than either MH/HPS combos or LEDs with supplementation.
