looking good my friend! I'm trying out the smart pots, and a couple other brands as well. just gotta watch the runoff out the sides if they pull away a little bit in the smaller ones. are you doing no till with these?
I did look into the geo pots but I decided to go smart pot. They're based out of oklahoma and that's a nice change from the traditional Ca, Or, ect...
I picked them up from my local hydro/brew shop, and i like to support local business. Post your findings on the fabric pot experiment, as I'm interested too.
I set out on this bokashi endeavor a little ahead of myself. I have a grand total of 100 gallons of soil/ compost/bokashi. Out of that I have 50 gallons that's well under way with aerobic aging. The other 50 gallons is still fairly fresh and need to futher aerobically compost. I have 4 (20's) filled, 2 with well aged, and 2 that are fresh. I'm going to mix the 4 together and add some leaf mold humus in the top 4". The top 3" is said to be the "home" of aerobic microbes, so that's how I'm gonna do it. I may even mix it 50/50 with well composted leafmold and fresh chopped leaves. Sorta like a mulch layer! Hint hint hint. ...

I have a concrete mixer and that's how I mix my soils. I bought a 50L bag of Hydroton today also and I'm going to mix it all into the 100gallons for extra drainage and "perches" for microbial colonies.
I'm undecided on adding some 1/8" crushed charcoal to the mix. But when in doubt, ... I already soaked the charcoal in my VEG/FLWR (fermented plant extract) FPE at a 50/50 ratio. It drying right now.

But instead of incorporating the bio char into the soil mix, I think I may use it as a top dress, or even at planting for transplants. Good stuff going in here!!!

Post are mixed and cooking without bio char.20151118_142757.jpg20151118_142814.jpg

I think I'm gonna make a 5 gallon batch of microbial tea. I'd feel better about the pots aging if they were fully hydrated. Also i think they should hold 1 gallon each without any draining so that's good because I don't want anything to leak out.
These pots are ROLS no-till, and leaching, flushing is definitely not needed.
Yesterday I drizzled 100ml of fresh urine on the surface of each and needs to be watered in
The tea is strictly microbial and will not have any nutritive value except for the castings and molasses.
The room is kept at a steady 70F so this will help speed things up I think.
I'm going to have to look around the house for more cardboard, I'd like to make disks to cover the soil in the pots, this will help establish fungal colonies on the surface. Not like it's really important to don't his but it will make me happy to see the soil come to life and confirm in my mind that shit kicking off in there.

Added 2.5 cups of castings (1/4 c/ gal)
blackstrap and agave nectar (40ml ea)
Blackstrap is great as a sugar but unfortunately carries a good amount of potassium. So I opted to split the difference. ** check out the pic for the comparison.
Alaskan forest humus 1 cup
And all my microbes including EM1.1447935916593.jpg1447936007323.jpg

It means that the bacterial serum has been activated with a carbohydrate.

EM mostly consists of lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and phototropic bacteria that were cultured and isolated to proliferate in a milk/lactose solution. These are known a flaculative anerobes and prefer an enviroment without air, but also function in an aerobic environment.
They assist in the decomposition of organic matter and have very significant effects on plants and the microbial diversity within the soil. Imho, they are necessary in ROLS as an excellerator, and also assist in providing disease/stress resistance.

Man I have learned more from you in a week's time then I have in the past year....Thanks !
I am humbled by your comment and I do greatly appreciate it. Knowledge is power and we're only as strong as our weakest link.
This is the reason I embarked on starting this thread. Alot of threads will say how to use things or someone may post what they used but very few actually "show" how to do it and how to "use" it, along with results as proof.

I hope to keep seeing you in this thread as the proof is soon to come. Shits gonna get real, ....soon.

this was kinda my idea for starting one too. i don't see a lot of comparisons and side by sides on here, so i'm going to be including a lot of that myself. Thanks for sharing man. always like to see what you're up to! I put up a post in my thread about my new method of diluting aloe into h2o, and boy was it effective! heaviest praying effect i've had yet! fresh is best, the powder is expensive and not worth the money to me. never had that kind of result with the powder.

Very cool man, I've never really used the aloe like you do but based on your results in your thread, I am a believer now.
Same thing with coconut water!! That was all you brother!
I can definitely see how the fresh aloe would be better than a powdered form. As they always, fresh is best! Aloe is so easy to obtain and grow, unlike coconut, you can't possibly grow a tree here in N. AMERICA, So i would probably opt for some coconut water powder but it's just soo easy to got on the grocery store and buy some in a tetra pack.

tea looks great man. i need to build a brewer and stop using the air stones for it. one more project to add to the list!
Thanks man.
Yeah I use to go with the stones, but I'd always have slime goo from the enzymes and bacteria that would attach and grow off of the stones. Ultimatley this reduced the amount of air that was being pushed through the stones and inevitably reduced the disolve 02 in the brew. Constant cleaning of the stones was more of a chore than I'd like. Teas still turned out great, but the ingredients that I loaded into the filter bag would just compact and I didn't really feel like I had a successful extraction or even made good use of the ingredients.
Now with the airlift, I can add anything I want. Even small stones from the Alaska humus get recirculating so that makes me feel better, and ultimately I feel that with more surface area of the ingredients provides a better finished product.

Heres my contribution. 3 barley fed plants on left, barley top dressed and barley tea'd once. 3 plants plain water on right. Not too impressive so far. I've did aloe and coconut water as well and will probably switch over to plain watering.
Nice dude! They dont look bad at all. Im sure they will explode in growth after that aloe and coconut. Nice branch spacing and even leaf size, all traits of healthy plants!! I love that pool idea, its crossed my mind far too many times.
