The Intellectual Dishonesty of Online Atheism

Who gives a fuck what some fool on YouTube has to say on the topic?

Atheism -is, in a broad sense, the rejection ofbelief in the existence of deities.[1][2] In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities.[3][4][5] Most inclusively, atheism is the absence of belief that any deities exist.[4][5][6][7] Atheism is contrasted with theism,[8][9] which, in its most general form, is the belief that at least one deity exists.[9][10]
I see you're back in TnT, did we grow on you. We're pretty cool and we love to fuck with this dumbass. I agree, wtf does youtube have to do with RIU or anything. You're arguing with a fucking moron, fyi.

As an atheist, I don't give a fuck what your religion is. I also don't care to convert people. I don't believe in gods or deities, and don't care if others do. If people want to believe in nonsense, as long as they aren't infringing on other people's rights, I don't care. Where do you think us atheist are standing on the street corner shouting down the gods, and handing out pamphlets? We don't, because we give no fucks when it comes to fairy tales.

Just because you want God to be Magic does not make you more logical than me, or logical at all really.

Yea, that makes no sense, and by default believing in a god is illogical to begin with, as any argument to the positive disregards the possibilities of your premises being false.

Reply to someone who said the Planets are named after the Gods

You claim that the Planets are named after the Gods. But that only makes sense if each society discovered the planets. But we know for a fact that these Societies were worshiping the same Gods/Planets, because when Greeks came to Egypt they automatically found the correlating Gods. And in Babylon they drew the Solar systems.

This can even be found in Christian Theology as "The 7 Heavens" and Pre Christian Gnosticism via "The Ogdoad". It would make sense that the planets were named after Gods, but only if we didn't know that they were passed down. Egypt to Greece, Greece to Rome, etc.

I can actually see where you are coming from on this one, Finshaggy. Many people, especially young people, are new to atheism and seem to be in full on rebel mode. They seem so giddy with their new found freedom in having given up their oppressive belief in the Abrahamic Monster, that they come off edgy and somewhat stupid. They have not yet educated themselves that all religion is not equally as insane and destructive as the big Abrahamic three, so they unfairly lump all into the same category. Kind of what you seem to be doing with atheists. Atheism is merely the lack of belief in deities, but many atheists believe equally whacky shit; alien abduction, homeopathy, magic, and all flavors of pseudo-science. Atheism only tells you one things about a person, it doesn't tell you anything else. If you'd like to look into the best the atheism has to offer, check out books and talks from the Four Horsemen: Dawkins, Harris, Dennett, and Hitchens. Lawrence Krauss is also pretty cool. Sam Harris, in particular, talks about the positive aspects of Buddhism (and I think Hinduism), Jayneism, and others. He is very much into non-supernatural spirituality. These gentlemen do have very intelligent debates with the heavy theists, and you will hardly find the kind of brazen stupidity you have a problem with in the younger, dumber atheists. There are plenty of those, but you can find quality if you're truly searching for it. Also, check out Theramin Trees and Qualia Soup on YT, those guys have a lot of worthwhile stuff to say on atheism, and other topics...

P.S. Doesn't this thread belong in S&S&P???

What a dumb question.

Earth is an observable, explainable phenomenon, so no I don't "believe" in earth, I know there is an earth

Ugh, atheist bashing is inevitable due to the amount of religious bashing they have done, and especially since gaining more numbers in the science community for the last century+. They'll receive proper judgement, which will just be the science and history evolving to new concepts. Science is the best way I've seen so far for adapting to future changes, since religion adds morals and laws and agenda prophecies etc. Science doesn't. It just tries to make communication about wtf is going on a little easier for us, and sees how far we can go with it.

Super clear description.

A belief in a 'deity' can simply mean that one understands that one was created and that one did not create oneself. IO, something like that. Then (|), and so on.

I haven't met every atheist or religious person in the world, but I've noticed that atheists rely on themselves for their actions. Religious people blame/depend on imaginary friends. I'm not 22, so maybe I haven't met as many atheists as FinShaggy. I have met quite a few religious people and from what I can tell, there is some trauma in their lives that caused this condition. Perhaps its a part of the grief cycle, kinda like denial. Reality doesn't agree with their fantasy, so they can attribute their fortune(good or bad) with miracles, magic, demons, angels, avatars, or rituals. Kill a goat, eat a soda cracker dipped in grape juice. Its all the same. Religious people have faith that they are not responsible for their reality and atheists know that they are responsible for their own reality. I smoked some cannabis before I wrote this, so it might not make sense. Then again, this could be words coming from someone that practices a part of Finshaggy's religion.
