Yellow leaves - hearing so many things it could be? (pic)

Hi people, my ladies are into their 3rd week of flowering and the most healthy growing plant, Chrystal is getting yellow leaves at the bottom which eventually get weak at the stem and fall off or when you touch them they fall off.

I originally thought this was due to the leaves not receiving any light as the plant is very wide and bushy with not much light reaching the lower parts. - If this is the case this could be normal?

I then had a look on here and viewed some posts of similar problems where it could be a Mag Deficiency? - If this is the case how do I correct it so she is healthier?

I then spoke to a grower who told me the plant is eating itself, sucking the nutes out of the leaves thus turning them yellow due to my nutrient feeding not having enough included for the plant. I am following the BioBizz feeding guide which states at this stage I should be using 4ml Bio Grow (this is the highest it will reach), 3ml of BioBloom (4ml being the highest) and 1ml of Top Max (jumping to 4ml in the later stages).

I watered her this morning upping the dose of BioBloom to 4ml which could possibly resolve this issue but I would like the opinion of Rollitup users to clarify.

Many thanks :weed:

nitrogen deficiency can cause yellowing. thats y in flowering i keep veg nutes and N in the diet of my plant. keeps the leafes green and healthy.

do you mean you keep the veg nutes the same as you did when in veg and how much N do you use for flowering? > noob here go easy! :D

BioGrow = N-8.0 P-2.0 K-6.0
BioBloom = N-2.0 P-6.0 K-3.5
TopMax = N-0.1 P-0.01 K-0.1

I'd say that you are on the right track, upping the nutes. I grow Chrystal too, and have found that they use more nutes than my other two strains. I have also found that they are the easiest to grow, and can handle quite a bit of abuse and still yield well. Have you got to try the smoke yet? I love it, personally. It's a really impressive looking plant when it's finished, and after growing bagseed for awhile, i was amazed when I saw this thing maturing. After seeing the difference that good genetics make, I'll never grow bagseed again. :cool:

Sorry to drift off topic.LOL

I also agree with the advice above, using veg nutes while in bloom, especially during the initial stretching period when the plant is really burning up the nutes. I use veg nutes til about the 5th week of bloom, while slowly switching over to full bloom nutes at the end.

So Is the overall consensus a N def?? im curious bc im got a trainwreck growing and im having the same thing happen. The yellow leaves will break away at the slightest of touch almost if i just look at them wrong they break off. I have read and was convinced it was a mag def but this thread has me thinkin N def. Which is correct and how to go about correcting it?

I go FF nutes going 1/4 strength so should i just raise the nutes to say 1/2 next feeding then after that maybe up it to full or is that too fast up the nutes?

Rule of thumb keep your leaves healthy and your buds will follow. They will break off if the plant is not using them anymore.

They're isn't much risk of fert burn, so I'd go full strength if I were you, being that they're already deficient. Then monitor the newest growth, and if the leaf tips are burnt that'll tell you that you are getting close to overfert, and time to back off a tad. Also, if you have clones started, keep in mind that they'll need more fert the next time around, and you should be able to avoid the same problem next run. :)

Your plants are eating themselves. This happens in the flower stage, your plants will eat up all the nitrogen in the leaves. Its normal, Like everyone has mentioned, give it some nitro. I like to switch right over to bloom nutes when going into flower however, when this happens I add nitrozime in small amounts to those plants with early flower deficiencies. Toward the end of your flower stage this will happen all over again... Let it happen then, its the plant finishing up.

This is my first grow - check my grow journal! The Chrystal is definitely the best plant out of my 3 as it has the most nodes, the most even growth and yes it is very versatile! It fell over a few weeks ago (was on top of a box) and was pushed against my Alaskan Ice overnight, I found it in the morning with the stem VERY bent and the leaves squashed but it recovered quickly and is now growing well! I am looking forward to trying all 3 :) Do you have any bud pics of your Chrystal?

My BioBizz grow guide says to use BioGrow all the way through and I think removing the BioGrow nutes would starve them? They will be in their 4th week of flowering tomorrow, all 3 plants have 8 week flowering times so I am half way there and am now using full flower nutes on 2 of them :)

The grower who told me they were eating themselves also said to flush and use with just water 2 weeks from harvest but my ladies are 4 weeks into flowering out of 8 weeks so this means using my nutes for only another 2 weeks?! The BioBizz grow guide says I should flush with water after week 8 so what is the best route to follow for best results?

Do you have any bud pics of your Chrystal?

This one is a little over 9 weeks into bloom, and looks pretty damn tasty, don't ya think?lol It was vegged for almost 5 weeks, was about 18", and ended up about 3 feet by the end. I didn't top it or train it either, i wanted to see what it would do on it's own. I'm guessing it's good for about 3 ozs dry, give or take 5 grams. :cool:

Cool man, I'll check 'em out. We posted at the same time, so you probably didn't see mine yet. What do ya think? I vegged it a little bigger than I wanted, but i think it still turned out pretty good. :)

WOW! If mine turn out like that I will be VERY HAPPY! +rep :)

I too vegged mine for 5 weeks, I was told grow them until they are half the height you want them as they double in size during flower so I left them 5 weeks as I wanted them a good size in total. I too haven't topped or trained mine but topped my Alaskan Ice last week to slow its growth as it was getting very big! 3oz dry of that quality will be amazing, what nutes did you use?

I use DynaGro nutes, along with Calmag, and some Hygrozyme occasionally. It's in a 3 gallon pot with FF OF soil(with 20% perlite), under a 600 watt HPS. Vegged under T8 fluoros, and no nutes until I start 12/12. It's my first real strain, after a couple bagseed grows, and I'm totally happy with the results. I think I'll keep this one around for awhile.lol Next, I want to try Ice. The guy who taught me to grow told me that it was his favorite of all the strains he's tried, and he tried alot. I trust him, plus I love the white strains, so I'll definitely try it out. I'll probably try White Widow too, and see what all the hype is about.LOL :)

If you need any advice on the Crystal, let me know and I'll be glad to give ya a hand. Best of luck with it, and the others. :cool:
