Ya know I had my first root canal done seven months ago and it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I can only assume in the past is was an excruciating procedure but it gets a bad rap these days and it really isnt a big deal. I almost opted to have the tooth pulled because I didnt want the root canal. (ya big pussy!)

My root canal was essentially painless as well ... but when the dentist opened me up, he went "phoooo" and said that the infection must have been in place for quite a few years. It had suddenly decided to explore surrounding tissue, and fell afoul of a nerve.
But the procedure was surprisingly painless ... I got lucky with a good blockade. cn

Root canals used to be a 3 day process, back in the 70's. Sometimes longer.

I've had 8 in my lifetime. Gold replacement teeth is my preference.

I've collected 6.5 grams outta my mouth which helps offset my dental costs.

My dentist charges the same for gold as he does for the composite so I go for the gold.

Root canals are lots easier and less painful these days. Just expensive.

Actually I'd like to change my answer, we all prolly wouldn't if you ever had a fever or flu when you were really young, 0-9. Kids died all the time from regular sicknesses back then.

Mine was like $40 extra. It's a molar ... so if I were in touch with pop culture I'd say it's a Porsche grill ... cn

Make sure to let your next of kin know about the gold in your mouth, cuz if something unforseen were to happen to you and you end up in either the morgue or a funeral home, it WILL disappear.

I have a pal who owns a pawn shop who has funeral directors and dentists stop by to cash in their little hoards of gold teeth on a regular basis.

While on a motorcycle camping trip up in Maine, (I had rid 28 hrs straight thru) I set up camp and ran to the store and bought some Starburst candy.

First bite pulled off a gold crown leaving a little stump. I camped 9 days, rid back to Danksville and then went to the dentist.

His assistant took x-rays gave them to the Doc and he whistled and "You must be here about that impacted tooth".

I said "No, I'm here to have a crown cemented back into place."

He says "The infection around this tooth is eating into your jaw, leaving a hole in your jaw." "I can't believe you don't feel any pain or have any swelling."

He gave me some anti-biotics, sent me home and the next morning I woke up unable to open my eyes cuz my face had swollen so badly.

I'm all better now, tho.
