wondering about cloning...

hi, I have 2 plants. (2weeks) old. indoor grower using cfls
I know it is to soon to clone because I dont even know the sex yet... but wondering. when I do switch to 12/12 and find out I have a female, I understand I can put it back in to the veg state , I also know that it will take a couple weeks to actually go back to the veg state... once that happens I leave the plant on, lets say 18/6 ....
this is when I can clone,....

Sooo how many clones can I take initally with out hurting the plant? 1, 2, 3, more??
and also I know this depends on the plant itself, but how many times all together can I clone the plant? and how often can I clone it?

can questions like this be answered or does it just depend on your plant?

thanks for anyone that can help the noob:joint::mrgreen:

If i'm understanding you right you want to put the whole plant into flower and once sex is shown you want to revert the whole plant back to veg and take clones from your ladies.

If I could make a suggestion, why not clone for sex? (google is your friend)

and you can take as many clones as you feel comfortable with, I take 2 clones from my plants, label them and root the clones with a 12/12 schedual. That way my sex is determined, I toss the males and my main plant never leaves vegetative state so it continues to grow beautifully. Once the main plant starts having alternate branching I take my good clones which stay under a 18/6 schedual while my main plant goes into 12/12.

Once the plant is established and has say three or more leaves, you can clone pretty much whenever you like. As long as you leave one branch, she will be fine.

I make clones from whatever I prune off the plant. It is generaly thought that clones do best if taken in veg state after the plant has reached maturity - shows preflowers and usually alternating nodes. Clones are much more reluctant to root during flowering but that can be done too.Clones are easy to make but it takes practice to get a high success rate.

IMO Kalebaiden's suggestion is a very good one. When she is big enough, make some clones and as soon as they are rooted put them under 12/12 and force them to show sex. Meanwhile the mother plant can continue vegging. But you might just veg the mother and put him/her into 12/12 when its time. If it's a male you will have plenty of time to recognize the flowers.

.Contrary to popular belief, the males do have some potency if allowed to go that long. It's nothing like a female full of sticky buds, but the leaves are often worth smoking, especially if you don't have any bud yet ( water cure them first ) or making into cannabutter or ISO hash.</p>

Ok, IMO your best bet would be to take a cutting and put it into flowering in order to find out the sex instead of revegging the entire plant. Revegging can take a LONG time and is not necessary if you take a cutting FIRST and put the cutting into 12/12.

You can keep the plant as a mother and just take cuttings at your liesure OR you can take a couple of branches right before putting your plants in 12/12 and just keep doing this over and over. I don't keep mothers and have been taking clones off of my plants in veg right before I flip them. The lower branches tend to root best, but any branch can be used for cloning. It just needs to be at least 4-6 inches long and have at least 3-4 nodes. Hope this helps.:weed:

Pretty much the way i go, Too. I usually wait until they show sex in veg and take clones when I flip to 12/12. I've taken some once they flower if they look like something special, but not all plants take very well. I like the stems to be a little woody because the tender ones tend to rot before they root.
I've read that you can take a cutting from your plant, place it in a glass of water, and put it in the 12/12 area- it will show sex in 2 wks. or so. Then you'll know what you have vegging away and whether you want to clone it or toss it.
