I'm not contractor or anything and maybe you know something I don't but, really? I though as long as you find a beam/stud/joist you should be fine, a 400W mag ballast doesn't weigh that much (50lbs or so??), I mean a friend of mine has a sex swing that's secured into a beam in the sealing and they claim to "Go At It" all the time with no problems, the beams are usually 2x4's which should easily be able to hold a 400W ballast, just get an eye bolt from the hardware store and it should hold it just fine, unless you have a really old house with rotted beams that is.

A few friends of mine have 1000W ballasts so I know how much they weigh (around 50-75lbs or so), if you find a stud/beam (preferably with a stud finder) and drill/screw in a eye bolt you wont be "Blindly" doing anything, like I said, if a sealing stud/beam can hold two people flailing about in a sex swing then I think it can handle a 50-75lb stationary light fixture, lol, but hey, its your call.

it is a 1000w metal halide light. it looks to be an exterior light with built in ballast with ability to use all voltages. it will be hot and will not be able to air cool but it would work, mh is ok in flower but hps is much better. and make sure when dealing with mh bulbs and how you mount the light because some bulbs will only work horizontally or vertically and some can do either.

Pretty much any 1000W "horticulture" bulb is going to be pretty pricy, I'm not sure how it works with conversion bulbs but you can get standard 1000W HPS bulbs for commercial, warehouse & security lighting purposes for a lot cheaper but they don't have "enhanced spectrums" for growing, however Ive heard that standard HPS bulbs work dam near just as good as "enhanced spectrum" horticulture bulbs, not sure how factual that is but its what Ive heard.
