Will these lights work?

For the love of god post some pics when you have this system put together!!!...........wanna see this beast running:P
Yes please do, and if your planning on running more that the 830W CDM I HIGHLY recommend you get a circular light mover (light rotator like the Solar Revolution), mount the vertical OG hood with the 830W CDM bulb in the middle and then put two other hoods with 600W HPS on either side (so all three hoods in a strait line mounted on the light rotator, so 600W HPS-830W CDM-600W HPS), this setup will grow plants like you've never seen before, you would be amazed with what it could produce, however it won't be cheap but things that are worth it rarely are, lol.

I bought two of these but they were 400 watts. I simply rewired remote and left the enclosure open. They run hot and they are too heavy to hang "as is" safely from any wooden joist you blindly screw into. Trust me.
I'm not contractor or anything and maybe you know something I don't but, really? I though as long as you find a beam/stud/joist you should be fine, a 400W mag ballast doesn't weigh that much (50lbs or so??), I mean a friend of mine has a sex swing that's secured into a beam in the sealing and they claim to "Go At It" all the time with no problems, the beams are usually 2x4's which should easily be able to hold a 400W ballast, just get an eye bolt from the hardware store and it should hold it just fine, unless you have a really old house with rotted beams that is.

The ones I have in the picture have a lot of weight behind them, like hotrod said i wouldn't "blindly" screw them into something. lol

A few friends of mine have 1000W ballasts so I know how much they weigh (around 50-75lbs or so), if you find a stud/beam (preferably with a stud finder) and drill/screw in a eye bolt you wont be "Blindly" doing anything, like I said, if a sealing stud/beam can hold two people flailing about in a sex swing then I think it can handle a 50-75lb stationary light fixture, lol, but hey, its your call.

Lol yeah I know, I was thinking "blindly" for someone that has no experience in that sort of thing.

Definitely should detach the socket from the ballast. Mount the socket high and put that monster ballast on the floor. I did the same with a 400-watt parking lot MH. Get some like 12 gauge wire and extend the two wires. I used those little twisty cap things.

lmao^ Try having it for your main light! You have to raise/lower that bitch, and it won't be me.

better have a friend help you too. I remember them days, and that was just my 400w in pic

now my light weighs just 2 pounds, after I made it remote. Also love the hood, so light-aluminum hood

Your absolutely right, I didn't think about raising and lowering it, just remote that beast, get the OG hood + 830W CDM lamp and update us on how it goes.

it is a 1000w metal halide light. it looks to be an exterior light with built in ballast with ability to use all voltages. it will be hot and will not be able to air cool but it would work, mh is ok in flower but hps is much better. and make sure when dealing with mh bulbs and how you mount the light because some bulbs will only work horizontally or vertically and some can do either.
......correction......dont listen to him...weve been air cooling those bulbs since the 1980s.....and the hoods to do it are cheap...its a good...its a great light for all stages of weed growth.....u cant go wrong, i still use these mh bulbs as they work and work fine!

Pretty much any 1000W "horticulture" bulb is going to be pretty pricy, I'm not sure how it works with conversion bulbs but you can get standard 1000W HPS bulbs for commercial, warehouse & security lighting purposes for a lot cheaper but they don't have "enhanced spectrums" for growing, however Ive heard that standard HPS bulbs work dam near just as good as "enhanced spectrum" horticulture bulbs, not sure how factual that is but its what Ive heard.
this is correct the enhanced spectrum bulbs for the most part are a waste of time...especially with mh bulbs....get a standard mh 1000 ...u cant go wrong..make sure its a U designation, then u can hang it in any position safely....tc
