why IR protection is important

I know alot of people dont worry about cops using FLIR , or their heat signature, because "the cops dont care about a 2000 watt grow". But the local hydro shop had a flir on display, and i realized anyone can rent or buy one. So some asshole could rent one, ride around town mapping out growhouses, and then rob them later, cuz their not the cops. it could happen

How does IR protection work. Never heard of it. I would think you have to be over the top of the grow room to see the heat signature like with a helicopter.

IR protection is simply putting up some type of insulation that will mask the heat signature the FLIR is trying to pick up. I think Sunmaster makes something like this to cover their reflectors with, although I do not know how good it would be up against a FLIR. Also, you would not necessarily need to be above the house to get the heat sig. If your grow area is in the front part of your house, then yeah, they could find it. If it's in the back, then more factors have to be considered (how far away is he scanning you, whats in between the scanner and the heat source, etc). It would also depend on how experienced the person using the FLIR is.

Do ya a Google search for "FLIR Rental" and you'll get pages and pages of stuff. They may ask what you need it for: School project, science fair, art project, check for correct insulation on your house... there's a million and one reasons.
