Why do HID lights have better penetration?

I do believe Sativied is somewhat intelligent, despite the bias. And although he does not want to give us credit for it, he did learn something about how we use COBs among other things.
Yeah, he learned "3 times more expensive".

3 times more expensive than what. Who's BOM is 3 times more expensive? Just vague claims here and there. Complete lies.

And for the record, Church you strike me as very intelligent and easily/quickly comprehend concepts. I have learned a lot from you and love having your brain on our team helping us figure this stuff out. Its no wonder that makes you a target for the haters LOL.

You don't want my brain. I've lost my mind somewhere.. lol.

I honestly believe Sativied enjoys the negative tossbacks between the LED crew here.
That's taking it to one extreme again. I don't care about the negative and butt hurt responses, comes with the territory, but that doesn't mean automatically I 'enjoy' negativity. No sir, what you describe is a troll. Perhaps your comments are better targeted to those who insist on upsetting themselves.

I have yet to come across any NEGATIVE feedback from a grower who has used Vero or Cree (3070, 3590) COBS and I've been here since last fall
Lack of negative feedback here in the LED forum? Read the first post I liked from you today... In other words, that means zero. You have to consider the source. And increasing the font size on top of making it bold doesn't make it any less of a invalid argument.

Unicorn... as if I'm the one telling fairytales.

So if you're just a troll, why do you bother with the picture journal thing? Do you enjoy it when people like your posts?

For the record, the whole price issue is a straw-man argument. I don't think a single person here (maybe one) ever said that DIY led is a better value than getting HPS, in fact most of us say the opposite every day. We have a bunch of charts that help us make these financial decisions on an individual basis. Nobody is being tricked unless it's by themselves.

I suggest noobs get HPS every day. I agree with experienced growers getting HPS for their warehouses every day. It's exactly what I would do for the majority of my own large operation..

The biggest problem I would see using DIY cxb in a large warehouse grow is being able to make the panels fast enough. It takes me about 3-4 hours to make a 2'x4' area worth of light. It's important to have the grow operations running ASAP, because time is money so DE gavita would be my work horse.

If you only plan on growing 1 time, you will never make up for the 3 times the cost. You've gotta grow 3 times the grow to make up 3 times the cost!

Edit: Just realized this sounds stupid.. lol. You'll make up the difference in cost in one grow.

I'm just callin' it like I see it.
Sounds cool doesn't it. And then it looks like you're joining a bunch of douchebags for a reach-around. Why even tag me unless you're out for a negative response from me and a positive from the haters...

And easier said than done. I call it like I see it. Bullshit. Hate me for it all you want. I talk about lights, ya'll talk about me or your imaginary version of me based on your own projections... Classic RIU. Ad Hominem...

Whichever it is people, fucking deal with it. It's a discussion forum, not a dogma forum.

Actually, he'd just be buying a light. I can see how you'd be confused though. Common mistake. I usually confuse buying a lamp with groups of people.

WoW! WTF happened to this discussion??? LOL!

I once grew with an old HydroFarm light/reflector…I started with a 400 watt MH bulb. The plants loved the light and the extra heat provided a nice day/night temperature difference. I was lazy to change the bulb for a long time and the output went way down….but, apparently, was still burning 400 watts!

I switched out the MH and got a HPS conversion bulb, finally, and the plants loved it, too, but then that bulb's output went way down, too…even faster than the MH. But, again, the plants really grew fast and produced more dense flowers and less leafy colas. I assumed that the HID lights penetrated "into" the interior of the buds…psshhh…tbh, I didn't really question it that much. I just looked at the results.

Then, I decided to explore some of the newer LED stuff and ended up with an SGS-160. It's obviously a lot less powerful light than was the old 400 watt MH, so I guess it wouldn't be fair to compare them. But, I have noticed that the LED grows much leafier/fluffier buds than my old HID setup.

I'm on the cusp of buying a new Optic Vero 29 (360 watt version) and will likely be pulling the trigger on it by next September. I'm hoping that it will get closer to the HID type penetration so that I can get those dense flowers happening again.

I do feel that the LEDs are safer because they don't get screaming-hot like HID bulbs do.

But, I was eyeballing those 315 LEC fixtures, too…but then someone else said that "bulbs are a thing of the past" -and I'd have to agree with that, too!

And even the LED guys give it up when someone mentions "Gavitas". And that's something called a LEP (Light Emitting Plasma)…

It gets very confusing to me, because I can only look into this world as an outsider.

I just want to get a really good light that will grow a personal-use amount of high-quality cannabis -something efficient and safe and plug-n-play! :)

Thanks and please stop arguing with each other. :) I need guidance! Thanks!

This is completely legitimate. I'm well on the way to providing some real insight.

Well frankly your opinion doesn't hold weight. If you have a problem with the math, demonstrating our mistake is the way to teach us. Thus far you've offered nothing but conjecture.

I'd love to see a professional study done using cobs, but it doesn't exist yet. If you can find one, ill send you 5$. Regardless of if its in favor or against.

I dunno who said "bulbs are a thing of the past," but I totally disagree, as I'm sure everyone else does- people get good results with hps, people get good results with led, until a light comes out where every user is getting like 2.5 gpw one will not leave the other in the dust.

"I just want to get a really good light that will grow a personal-use amount of high-quality cannabis -something efficient and safe and plug-n-play!" just described the LEC 315 exactly. you'd be doing yourself a massive disservice to not grab one just because some guy on the internet doesn't like lightbulbs even though the rest of the world is having a great time with em.
if bulbs were a thing of the past, why would they still be doing research and development on new bulbs?
