Why do some people feel that you are being a pretentious arsehole if you use more than monosyllabic words when attempting to convey your position on complicated topics..?

Also...

It seems to me that some people are so intimidated by big words that they feel the need to attack your character because of it...

How does a person get to a point in their life where they decide that anybody that has a broader vocabulary than theirs is a dickhead..?
i feel the same way when playing scrabble with someone who argues about the legitimacy of words like "xi" and "qat". somehow I'M the asshole for knowing words and alternate spellings of words.

i blame the internet. if someone hasn't read the wiki article then it's just not true.

i have a really bad feeling about the future evolution of the english language. if recent declarations of new "words" are any indication, this language is headed straight down the shitter. my concern is that street talk and textspeak will become so prevalent as to actually replace entire chunks of the language. dictionaries seem to have taken on an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude.

Considering the fact that modern English is a bastardized language; it's really not that big a deal. ;)

I don't think people read what I write when I use my full vocabulary in the grow forums. So I dumb it down.

For the record, I blame text messaging. Never in human history has a new technology made us so dumb as to forget what we already knew. I fear for my kids abilities to spell three and four letter words in the future.

While texting is undoubtedly a factor, i think it is deeper than that. There was a study in the UK quite recently concerning maths which basically concluded that kids are now more retarded at maths than they were 50 odd years ago, something like 15% now don't even undersand what ratios are

I enjoy a good conversation with .50 cent words. And some communication is ok with just unrecognizable grunts and moans.

What I hate most is an answer to a question that was not asked.

question "Is that your car?" answer "the blue one used to be parked here."

that pisses me off.:finger:

As for the Scrabble post, I love to use the word "yeti" and watch people look at me like I'll trying to scam them.

and lokie, I hate asking a question and getting answered with a question. Feckin' respond already !!!!!!!!!!!!
