Why are so many new growers choosing blurple/led over hps/mh??

Being made to feel stupid because we are confused by how to start makes you wonder why you'd want to be part of this community.
Don't base your opinions on the arrogant spewings of one opinionated jerk. Many of us, myself included, came from ignorance into enlightenment and don't forget our roots. My involvement in pot forums for the last decade is based on helping newbies grow better pot regardless of their roots. I grew my first modest buds back in '78 but have learned a hell of a lot since and enjoy sharing that knowledge.

Hang in there man!

Here's some knowledge for you.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS . I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as many are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

:peace:

Hust
kingrow1 requested a ban and is no longer with us.
PS Hust17 is also no longer with us.
Hust17 called me a retard, and accused me of homophobia on another thread. I was Attacked by multiple Mars hydro fans over pointing out the ridiculous. They wanted free stuff, admitted it and got nasty. I was surprised to see her slumming over there.

LED COBS are a game changer hands down. Dimmable especially.
They are not a hands down game changer (for growing mj), but they certainly were a fad. Amare Technology is the only one to understand that they needed to be supplimented/ surrounded with specific spectrum monos. He now has moved on to newer and significantly better diodes, which weren't readily available then. FYI: I had an original BML SPYDR 600, which did combine various spectrum individual monos

Here's what appears to be a really good value SMD LED

You can get a top of the line already built led that will grow a few oz for $100 imo that sounds perfect for a first time grower. You won't be filling out a 4x4 but you could get yourself an oz a month using a 65w led that costs 100. It only gets expensive when you try to light a big space.
Do you have proof? Cause that is 100% pure BS

well the sure aren't using 301's . Their monos right? Look at how weak the spectrum is in the middle. No green. Old tech. What about the other issues with it? Hot spot sucks!
Stick with your politics forum and leave the LED talk to people who know what they are actually talking about.

They make some nice t5 replacement leds that are twice as efficient now.

The inverse square law makes light penetration the same. Led actually penetrates great because it has more green than hps.
Your contradiction aside, I was running a Plasma Light. It has a different spectrum than a HPS.
Annie was being her usual polite self, so allow me to be a bit more direct.

Penetration is a function of lighting power. The inverse square law applies to power aka lighting flux per area. The irradiated area is a function of the distance of the light.

Spectrum is a horse of an entirely different ... color. It does not affect penetration in any significant manner.

So for you to say that light penetrates differently if it is green betrays a failure on your part to grasp basic physics. I suggest cleaning up these cognitive gaffes if your objective is to be taken seriously on this forum.

For now HID lighting meets my needs. LEDs or some evolution of them are the future. However they are an evolving technology and as rapidly evolving tech goes you pay a high price for the bleeding edge best and not all the parameters are as yet understood so there will be more evolution. All this is paid for by the early adopting consumer.

I'm sure one day I'll have different forms of light in my grow rooms but until the tech gets more uniform I can afford to wait. But I have seen fabulous grows under LED however until there is more research and the tech matures my plants do well enough for me.

I totally get what your saying.
I could have posted exactly what you said.
I'm responding without reading the posts that follow yours so I don't know the direction of the thread.
I do have a small HLG v2 that I used in the LED comp last year but I'm in no hurry to change over to LED.

My plants are happy under HID and LED tech is still evolving.

Me, You, Kingrow1 and others like the Dr. and our old friend MMG will make the switch when we know our lights are no longer growing the best weed. I'll know it's time after you guys all make the switch lol.

ROLFMAO, Good one this morning, thanks! You have some lovely ladies. Whatever grows pot and whatever gets you into growing your own is great, even if it's screw in CFLs or a Blurple under the sink.

Led is better thank you. Now I'm concerned the size of the little donkey dicks you get when you mess with shit lights. With little dicks like that you probably need a daddy. Do the right thing for the environment and get a decent light.

My first inclination was to come back and attack you. But it took only a few seconds to just laugh you off. I've seen insecure individuals and that's what I see in you from the little bit of interaction I've witnessed. I hope you get your mind straightened out and put it to some kind of productive use. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Don't continue to waste yours.

Have a nice day. :)

I figured it was understood the lights would be the same wattage. How else would you figure? And Green light penetrates deeper. Just ask Prof Bruce Bugbee. You sir fail to understand plant physiology.Careful with those gaffs. Good Day.

Yes, I've been sitting here wondering what dog he has in this hunt. I'm guessing there's a financial interest somewhere to flog obviously good tech so hard. LED isn't snake oil and doesn't require hyperbolic sales tactics. Worse shoving an opinion down people's throats doesn't attract converts.

I think your intellectually lazy bro.I'm glad your laughing. I hope you get straitened do the right thing and get a decent light.

I'm a new grower. Let me tell you my journey.

In August a dispensary opened in town so my wife and I went to check it out. While I was there I got to talk to one of the guys who works there and he suggested that I try growing. "That's legal?" ""Yes it is, and it's easy." When I got home I started researching. I didn't know about RIU or any of the other growing sites, but I did know about leafly. And I found this article: https://www.leafly.com/news/growing/how-to-build-cannabis-garden-for-100-500-1000-dollars Most people don't have $500 or a $1000 to start a new hobby. I sure don't. So you start with the $100 option and that means you are going to start with blurple light. You might have a bit more than $100 and decide to upgrade a few things. Considering that the light in the $500 option by itself is more than the entire $100 option you don't upgrade that. Mainly because at this point you don't know that the light is the most important part of the grow space.

And that really is the problem. There is so much contradictory, confusing and just plain wrong information that it is impossible for a new grower to build an inexpensive starter grow space without making a lot of mistakes. My grow space is really broken. I have 3 plants in a 3x3 tent (too big) with an older model Mars Hydro blurple light that is WAY TOO SMALL to light that space. I don't have money to buy a proper light so I make do with what I have. And honestly, I still have no idea what light to get for that tent without spending at least $250. (My space is in my basement with no A/C and it gets warm in the summer (mid 80s) so a light that generates a lot of heat is not an option.)

So, rather than calling new growers newbs or morons or stupid, get together as a group and put together a starter grow space that is reasonably priced. Make sure the parts can be used in a clone or veg space as the grower get more involved and upgrades. And write up an easy to follow grow guide that someone completely new to growing can follow. And get that information out there!

Being made to feel stupid because we are confused by how to start makes you wonder why you'd want to be part of this community.
I joined like a month ago and have blocked like two or three people . It's unfortunate but that was the only way I would stick around. Still hearing shit talk so I'm wondering why even stay ...

Conflating wattage of a light with its output is another bold move toward total incredibility. You are simply bobsledding through irrelevance toward laughingstock status.

As for Prof. Bugbee, I'll put my Ph.D. in organic chemistry up against his degree any day.
ceterum censeo please quote your source saying such a thing.
