A trick I used to learn years ago was to take the bottom half of the rollie (not the half with the glue), and fold a 1/8' (or so) crease along the length of the paper.
This makes a nice little cup for the ganja to sit in, and allows the bottom 'lip' to go easily around the goods, and tuck in. I also use the edge of the rollie pack to gently even out, and lightly press the weed into the 'cup'.
I found I ALWAYS ended up with 'pregnant' joints early on in my joint rolling trials. Doing this, I found, kept the doobie even diameter from tip to tip.
Now, I don't need to do that anymore (the fold), just did it for example. I still 'press' the weed with the rollie pack though. I can now roll joints that look damn near like pre-fab cigarettes.
Must have rolled in the multiple tens of thousands of doobies over the years. The good old days of rolling up a QP and takin' it to the beach.....LOL.

thats how i learded to roll, got my very first bag of weed 3 books of papers, took a couple days of trial and error but i eventually tought myself, but takes a LONG time to perfect. for most that is

I couldn't roll a joint for the life of me like 5 years ago now. I was always a bong/pipe kinda guy. I bought a half one day and two packs of papers, sat down smoked a bowl, then just rolled shitty joint after joint. Then all of sudden it kind of just clicked, then each one got better and better. Now I can roll a pretty mean joint. For some reason my joints always cone, like no matter what I do I can't make a straight joint. They smoke great, look pretty cool, but I have no idea why it happens.

I go old school with Zig Zag blues. Not really a fan of any of these new papers, scented/flavored types, or hemp papers, clear/see-thru glucose based papers.....etc.
I remember when Rizzla papers were 'the rage' around town, and I tried them and was like " WTF? Nasty ! "
The same weed smoked with Zig Zag's tasted good, Rizzla's.......like burnt hair.
I can't even begin to ponder how many packs of Z.Z. blues I have purchased over the years.

Ok spome tips.
Make sure the weed is quite dry, if it is all sticky and dank, place a nug in the windowsill for an hour or so to just air out.
Make sure it is as fine as you can get it with your fingers, but not powdery fine.
Make a filter, I like useing the tip of a cigarette with the blunt side out and the torn side inside.
The previous step is crucial for learning, it gives you something solid to hold on to and form your spliff around, start filling from the filter side, dont leave any pockets, and try to apply progresovely more towards the tip.
lick, roll and twist off the tip.

My buddy sent me an email with these pictures in it a few weeks ago. He was smoking with his mom and he didn't have any papers so his mom pulled these out of her purse.

They are great. I got 3 for $1.50 at a reggae festival and I likey.
Rizzla is getting less sticky lately...
Juicy jays and all those flavors are a nice treat once in a while. I like flavored rips because of the dispenser, being able to choose joint size and they're wide + slow burning + tasty, but work out cheaper than blunt wraps.
The cellulose 'papers' are a nightmare to roll with but look pretty darn cool and keep the ash tidy. Not the best all-round. I like hemp paper rips because of the medium-slow burn, smell and ganja leaves printed all over them :3
I got me some grape paper rips today *wags tail* They're a lesser brand than juicy jay or hornet but they roll and stick well. Tasty <3
I like picking flavors that compliment my weed rather than masking it- unless it's a roach joint. Out comes the ultra thick mint chocolate papers to help me milk the last of my weed for all it's worth X3
