Perlite thought the same also.
But I had picked and crushed a few.
It's like a crystallized rock kind of reminded me of coke.
If that helps

The perlite I crushed has a harder dense felling to it

Looks like you got some contamination but not anything bug related.

Different pieces of perlite have different densitys. Some will crush easier than others.
