I'm new to this and im not quite sure what soil to use. I was going to use roots organic but i've read a lot of problem that roots organic has. I really dont want to mix my own soil, what is the best soil i can get straight from the bag? Fox farm? Roots organic? MG?
-thanks in advance

Miracle Grow is a semi-difficult medium to work with if you're a newer grower, or brand new.. and not very attentive - just putting that out there.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest FFOF seems to be the most popular on here, promix aswell.
Agreed on both counts, you really can't go wrong with either of those unless you start hammering plants with a 46-0-0 Urea or something else that would make no sense to do.

I was using Fox farm ocean forest for my first grow, I got some clones from a cannabis club here in norcal, transplanted them in to the fox farm. About a month a some change into my grow I need to transplant to bigger pots, Go back to my hydro store, and there out, owner points me to roots organic, Says its about as "hot" as Ocean forest but it has better drainage. Well I took his word for it, bought a bag and came home and transplanted the ladies. Have had them in it since and they like it! They really responded to it very well when I transplanted them (nice growth) and the hydro store owner was correct MUCH better drainage. Im going to stick with Roots organic for my next grow bongsmilie

Been using ocean forest for a while with good results. Never used roots organic. Anybody else use both and have an opinion on which is better?

Ive never tried seedlings into soil "hotter" than Light Warrior personally, but a close buddy of mine uses Roots from day 1 with no adverse effects. I think he washes it or something 24hrs prior to planting. Not 100% tho.

Im mainly a coco grower; I did notice the same drainage properties of the FFOF as Ghettobird, however mixing coco, FFOF, and perlite at 3:1:1 respectively drains awesome for me and is cheaper on the soil turn-over cost. This mix carries them through veg and into week3 of flower where I hit them with Bud Candy and Big Bud among others. Just what works for me. hope it helps.

Well after transplanting into Roots, I feel my girls liked it better. This is my first grow so no expert here :D, although It was noticeable Growth and Drainage as I stated that I will try from start with roots organic next time.

Yah I've heard of adding perlite to FFOF, but as a first time grower (and a busy one at that) I like the "turn key" aspect of Roots organic as I just buy it from the store and pour it in the bucket and im good to go. I' sure as I get deeper&deeper into growing i'll be making my own soil but as of my newbie self now its working :) I was thinking of buying some budy candy though how is it working for you?

With coco its hard to really get those outstanding flavors and smells, so I feel that the Bud Candy really helps in this aspect. I have Blue Widows that smell like they are in organics right now. For this purpose i really like the product. Around my neck of the woods its like 25$ a liter so very worth it as well.

id say pro mix seed starter/hp/bx if you are going to use nutes, FF ocean forest is good and popular and you dont need nutes for a month, but my smaller babies haven't done well in FFOF i believe because its got too much nutes.
