When to take clones?

Hey All, Ive been having a lot of trouble cloning and being a good lil do-bee ;) Ive been reading.

Ive been taking my clones from veg plants and mums, that have alternating nodes.

Jorge in Marijuana basics says to take clones in the 3rd week of flowering? Confused.

They would have much bigger stems and growth, but wont they have to revert to veg while they try to root?
Wouldn't this increase the time they need to rot?

Thanks Folks

No! in vegation stage , take clones from the lower branches that are at least 20cm long. In reality one can clone in any stage. Have taken a flower top and cultivated that! It takes at least 2 weeks for good clone rooting, that also adds to harvest times!

Yes, they have to revert back to veg, which in some cases can take upwards of 14 days.

I typically snip from the top of my moms, as I have a height restriction in my clone area.

Many people here on RIU don't keep moms, they just keep cloning their veg plants before they put them into flower. I go straight from clone to flower, so I don't do any vegging, or else that'd be the way I'd do it too instead of maintaining mother plants.

Ive been keeping mums because of my dismal cloning success, gives me more cuttings to experiment with.

Most of my cuttings are small with most stems no thicker than an 1/8 inch or so, coming from the bottom of the mum.

If my success rate with the flowering cuts would improve with the thicker stems, it might be worth it, found I interesting that Jorge says 3 weeks into flower, I usually have pistils by week 2.

One word: aerocloner.

Here's a pic of my mom and clone area. Those are 25 clones (8 Chemdawg, the rest Jack Herer) I snipped last night.

In 15 days, I will select the best 8, and they will go straight into the flowering tent. The rest get tossed in the garbage. It is *very* unusual for me to have clones in my cloner that don't root. I can not praise my little $60 aerocloner enough. It is a huge time and effort saver. Snip, put in neoprene, drop into cloner. Done.

Off to take cuttings for my DIY Bubble cloner, my success rate has sucked. Ran bubble cloner, jiffy pellets and glass of water in a race. Nothing rooted but the jiffy and they look rough. Have a dome and tray with jiffy starting soil and the bubble cloner in a race now.
