I will be doing my first grow in soil. Soil i will be using is Fox Farm Ocean Forest with perlite and Dolomite Lime. I will be starting seeds in a Red Solo plastic cup with half fox farm and half pro mix. Then transplant to 1gallon with 20% filled with perlite and the rest Fox farm ocean forest with a teaspoon of Dolomite lime mix. Then before flowering transplanted to 5 gallon bucket with 20% filled with perlite and the rest with FFOF and a tablespoon of Dolomite. My question is with this setup when will I know to start giving first feed? Does any one have pics of the signs your plant show when its time for first feeding? I will be using AN GROW, MICRO,BLOOM AND BIG BUD

I think you'd do better starting your seeds in a one gallon container using a seed starting mix like FF Light Warrior, Miracle Grow Seed Starting Mix, or even coir + 10% worm castings. If you can't afford a one gallon fabric smart pot, cut the top off a one gallon milk or water jug.

- You'll be watering less often which mean less work on your part;
- You'll get a better root mass in a shorter amount of time;
- You'll be able to post pone transplanting until at least three weeks when it's more hardy; and
- You won't risk burnings your plants with the soil mix your thinking of using.

First feeding is normally done at week three or week four. Ideally, you want one or two bottom leaves to start barely turning yellow, which shows they are hungry for nitrogen.

Every strain is different. When to first feed is simple. When the cotyledon turns 90% yellow! I have 100% success this way. Some strains the cotyledon will yellow quickly while others take a few more days.

If you are using FFOF I doubt you will need any extra nutrient until after you do your last transplant, about 3 weeks later.

If you notice your fans an N def and your plants have not out grown your pots, you are probably over watering and adding nutes will further damage things.

When you do feed, I would recommend starting at 1/4 strength. It's hard to resist giving them more because it seems like such a small amount, but I've burn the hell out of many plants playing with full strength nutes.
If you use full strength, you need to give them plain water a couple times afterward unless you plan on giving them a good flush down the line.

These are some things I wish someone told me when I first started! Good luck!!
