could someone please give me the definition of "a peaceful world"? how exactly would this work? i know that guy that keeps driving that gas powered little red wagon up and down my street at 1am is somewhat un-peaceful. so how would things like this be dealt with? how can we possibly live peacefully?

I think there has to be a great catastrophy, or Divine intervention. Ever since Cain slew Able, there has been nothing but strife. You can take that literally or metaphorically, but the results are the same.

Peace comes with death. Only once the persons with ideas of 'Peace', or those denying them of their 'peace' die, will peace be true. And even futher than that, conflicting opinons of what 'peace' should be will diminish anothers.

The dream of peace leads to war. What is peace? To me peace is the absence of conflict. This is not within human nature. My peace is offensive to 'their' peace, my ideals are are a threat to 'their' peace, your peace is offensive to me. The only way to achieve true absence of conflict would be to drug or genetically alter the entire population of the world to create a race of carbon copies, all doing the same thing. Sounds pretty boring.

Conflict is not human nature, it's nature. People are not the only creatures on this planet that have conflict. Many animals are territorial and are authorized to use deadly force to protect that territory. Some travel in groups or herds, packs call them what you will but, a member from the same species but from a different 'pack' is not welcome. Cute little monkeys will kill cute little monkeys from a different group, though they are the same species they are alien to one another and therefore a threat to each others peace.

Nature is conflict. Conflict is natural. Peace is a dream. We kill for it, we die for it, we yearn for it and yet never have it. Like tomorrow it's always a day away.

Hey joe,^^^^excellent post above.....you are correct, peace is only a mirage....it is not attainable in the real world. Peace is truly un-natural!

Sad to say it, but the sooner more people realize the chimera that the pursuit of a lasting peace represents, the better off all of humanity will be!
Human nature cannot be changed....it is pure folly to think otherwise.
Soooo, smoke 'em if you got 'em!

Perfect Peace to me would be doing without major conflicts in the world such as war. Minor conflicts drive nature's course, and is what keeps life interesting. In a world with nothing to worry about, with only peace, what is the purpose of achieving anything? I think working toward peace is a wonderful process in itself, and is and should be the closest we get to Utopia.
