What the F is this??

Hi everyone,

I was removing some over growth fan leaves and noticed what looked like white grain of sand. This isn't sand. It's a living thing but I have no idea what it could be. I attached some more pics and attached them here. You can see where this has penetrated the stalk and attaching it's self. This is weird and scary.

Have any of you ever come across this?

This isn't a worm. You can see in one pic where I broke it in half and couldn't see if or where it was attaching itself to the leaf stem.

It starts out looking like a little white ball that looks like it has cell division going on, like an embryo. It's shape changes to look like a bowl with the depressed hole facing up. You can kind of see this in a couple pics. My gut says this is some kind of fungus but have no clue.
I'm keeping humidity below 50% and temps low to mid 70's. I've only seen a few of these so far.

It almost looks like an aborted root attempt
