ok, ive been growing my little beauties, five in all, under a shoplight for about a week now and they have reached about three inches in height and equally in leaf reach. im going to be switching to a mh-hps switchable system in about a week but dont knwo what wattage will work for my space. i have a space approximately 2 feet my five feet and like i said about five plants right now. i planned to get a 600w setup but i am now thinking that 400w might be good enough for this small area. or will two 400w's be better because it is longer? i dont know. also, how wide to plants get? i plan to veg em till about a foot tall or slightly higher and am wondering if this space can accomodate 5 or 6 plants. any help would be greatly appreciated. im about to order in like two days and be able to switch over within the week. HELP!!!:joint::peace::blsmoke:

btw the shoplight got decent growth but i think this is about the point that they begin losing their effectiveness since growth has slowed this past week. do you need to fertilize this early? i just transplanted into 8 liter pots. 40% perlite 60% pro-mix. plants are healthy but dont look ready to explode like they used to. :joint::peace::blsmoke:

sounds a lot bigger than mine. i just dont know with such limited space what lights will cover the area and not be wasted or unutilized.:joint::peace::blsmoke:

How big is your grow room? 2'X5'? Exaclty what is the height, width, and length. Your plants will almost double in size from veg to harvest.

Now pay attention. The argo sun is supposed to be better because it has an enhanced spectrum bulb. THe problem is with one bulb you can only do just so much mixing, especially if it coming from one bulb that is 8" long and maybe 2" around. Add to that the height of the fixture approximatley 12" and the distance they have to be above your plants because of the heat they produce in order to put out 45,000 lumens using 430 watts of power.
Instead you could purchase a 4'long-19" wide t-5 8 bulb fixture which would fit PERFECTLY IN YOUR 2' BY 5' CLOSET. I happen to have a couple of them and I am using them from start to finish. They operate using 440 watts of power and produce 40,000 lumens evenly over four feet by two feet of space. Sorry about that other foot of space you have.
If you chose the hid and I don't care what watt it is you will be back here asking how to deal with the heat from the $119.00 special you bought, I know cause I had three of them. By the time you get that taken care of you will have already lost enough yeild to make up the difference in the initial cost. When you add on the cost of heat extraction for the hid's and the difference in height you can allow your plants to grow to with the t-5's you will be in the hole, nothing personall Hole. I may not know shit about growing, I can read a thermometer and it tells me the t-5's are right for a closet grow......period. Get the picture. VV:hump:

i get it. there are just so many people saying that HIDs kill t-5s hands down and I dont want to sacrifice yield for cost. plus a good t-5 setup is still like 300 bones. ya digg? if the yields are good though, and i am taking your pictures as testament, there is no reason why i couldnt use these for this area. do you have to grow them longer in veg or is it the same time frame as HIDs as well? run blues for veg and reds for flower? or a mix of both all throughout? how about 6 blues and two reds for vegg and 6 reds and two blues for flower? more red for flowering couldnt hurt right? im seriously contemplating switching to this idea of t-5 fixtures. i just hope they dont come out with some t-3 HID flouros in three months. id be heated. but i guess for the time being this is a good choice for my specific application. will think about the setup tonight. how much exhaust/cooling would i need to cool these down? would an exhaust scrubber and a circulating fan be enough? compared to a 600hps and mh these would give off a lot less heat???:joint::peace::blsmoke:

In your space the t-5's Would be much more efficient and give each of your plants more light than a 400w would. Plus like VV said....heat is a pain in the ass, I have heat problems in a 5x5x7 ft room with my 600w and its not an easy or inexpensive problem to correct.

Go with the t5's I am starting out all my new plants under a homemade t-5 fixture.https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/32494-stopwhinings-bella-rhino-sog.html
