Definitely be honest with her, explain why you're doing it, the benefits, the risks, and let her decide the next steps, not worth wrecking your relationship over a few plants. If it comes out negative, there was a good suggestion posted to find an alternative site like a buddy and share the wealth/benefits. I'm lucky, got rid of my ex for many reasons other than our differences around growing 
My GF doesn't smoke but understands that I do, that it's my personal choice and love the whole growing thing as a hobby (bonus), she's cool with it as long as I keep the smell under control, otherwise she has bigger things to worry about. She also went through a 2 year cancer fight with me and understands that if it weren't for the weed keeping my body and mind together (and away from all the pharma drugs they wanted to feed me) I may not be here... long live ganja
