It is the #1 selling soil and nutrient line in the world. Keep that in mind when all the experts start telling you it is garbage.

5 Products Better than Miracle Grow & under $10 At your local Home Depot

Ok so lately I've noticed lots of newbies Asking nutrient (aka nutes) Questions.

I consider Miracle Grow a vile nasty product that does more harm than good in most cases. The fact of the matter is it's so readily available and cheap thats what most newbies turn to. Considering newbies and miracle grow don't mix I decided to do some research on a few products that are just as available as MG (Miracle Grow) and much more beneficial.
All these products can be found at Home Depot, Lowes and sometime Wal-Mart.

First on the list for veg...
shultz 10-15-10 W/ micronutrients.
It is formulated to give all plants the essential primary nutrients and the micronutrients,
iron, manganese and zinc, they need for vigorous growth.
Sells for about $4.98
I usually start a half the recomemded amount and work my way up to full stregnth.

Also for veg. & all Organic
Epsoma Plant-Tone. $7.57
An all natural, all purpose premium plant food blend.
Long lasting, slow release feeding.
Complex blend of of the safest, finest natural ingredients available.
No sludges, fillers, or toxic ingredients are ever used.
This Product should only be used twice to three times during veg. Once again use half the recomended amount for the first feeding. Only use once a month.

This next product can be used once a month in conjuncton w/ your normal feeding schedule
Alaska Fish Fertilizer $5.48

For Flowering...
For flowering I've only found one really useful product, that can be found at all three stores...
Color Burst 15-30-15 $5.48
This I also cut the recommended amount in half. These are time release granules, but they are released by heat not water, so even if you over water the plants won't burn.

Lastly for people with soil ph problems...
Epsoma Organic Garden lime $3.97
The finest grade of pelletized, dolomitic limestone available.
Lime adjusts soil pH so plants can get the most from nutrients present.

Ok so I hope this helps someone out there with these questions. I'm still kind of a newbie myself but after actually trying these products myself it occurred to me to share my research. There are of course better more advanced products out there but these are common better than MG and they worked for me!!!​

I have a can of that shultz take-root...works fine :D

I also use Shultz cactus food+micronutrients during flowering, its 2-7-7 :)

come on brick top whats so vile about it? ammonia nitrogen is salt, no matter were its extracted from. do you mean its a vile product when not flushed properly cuz i agree. thats why i dont like organics, you cant flush them. not suprisingly the local club wont buy hardly any organic grown bud, because when the organic bud gets tested it comes back posotive for fertalizer, and it has that "earthy" taste, sometimes too earthy like almost piss:spew:


fertalizer is really mis-understood. fertalizers are salt, and when you mix the salts in different ratios; it creates various magnetic feilds, the plants live off of the magnetism and electricity(sounds crazy). this was discovered in the late 1800's scientific studies, studies where people succeded in growing plants 100% in the dark.

It will work, be careful of the slow release stuff, I grow organic only, don't want to be smoking chemicals and neither do an of my customers, but I can't see really any reason it wouldn't work just may not taste very good imo

Everything after that, which was in a quote box, was written by the person who wrote the original post. It was not written by me. The part that referred to MiracleGro as "a vile nasty product that does more harm than good in most cases" was not written by me. It was written by the original poster.

That was so clear that Stevie Wonder could easily have seen it, so why did you ask me why I think MiracleGro is "vile?"

to be honest , i used MG, i found it its very good...you dont have to add anything nutrient for that....its great for veg, you can smell the dank of fresh cannabis....but it got more diffcult later in the flower stage...but managed it good...i rather use the organic MG instead regular potting mix or moisture control.

I appologize brick top, I had a brain dead moment. I dont see how i miss read that, its clear as day hahaha. I blame it on tiredness, the cat im watching keeps going in my bathroom and meowing non stop.

Lift the lid on the toilet and give it a flush. Some cats just love fresh toilet water.....or it may be use to its litter box being in a bathroom....

If MG made cannabis taste vile or nasty or like chemicals, why wouldnt it do the same thing to my tomatos?
The plant breaks fertilizer and nutes down into starches and sugars and whatever else it does.
Just dont overdo it, I believe most people give their plants way more then they need.
The only difference between MG and others is the buffers and salts they use.

Miracle grow has worked fine for me. In fact if you do some research you will see that mg is trying real hard to get in on the medical marijuana industry. If I can still grow good bud without getting raped by fox farm or one of these other soil companies it seems the choice is clear.

Back when I first started I used mg soil. If you follow a good watering schedule, It's an ok soil to use and gets the job done. The key is to water when the soil gets pretty dry, that keeps you from burning the plants..Took me a few grows to come to that conclusion... The big turnoff for me is mg soil is loaded with fungus knat eggs... I now use fox farms soil....

when you say organic, you mean orgainic nutes correct? or do you mean organic in the sense that you use nothing?

well the issue for me is..... should I just let the plant do its thing in the MG soil.... or should I be adding something else maybe N.P.or K. because the plant needs this..... I am such a noob so maybe this was kind of a dumb question

for real WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn it man I have been fighting off gnats forever , so fucking annoying. they always come back the next day after I water, so annoying.
