i have a 600 watt nextgen ballast but im upgrading to a 1000 watt ballast but dont know which one to go with ....i heard good things about lumatek ballasts but what would you prefer? and why? thanks roll it up

Phantom Ballast. I have 8 of them and you can't hear a sound. No problems so far and have had them over 1 year.
1)There very quiet
2)No fan (because a Real ballast doesn't need one I dont care what anyone says it just promotes dust in your ballast)
3)Phantom ballast can stand up vertically if you don't have extra room , or you can mount it horizontally.
4) It has a dimmable switch. The ballast can run at 60 -75 -100%

Most digital ballasts I see are priced similarly. Any of the well known brands should be fine. I have some local off brand and it also works fine. Digital ballasts are supposed to be more efficient and run cooler, magnetic ballasts are considered to be more reliable and last longer, who knows. If heat is an issue in your room and you keep your ballasts in there, that would be reason enough to go that route. Dimmable is not a bad function, I've never used it personally however.

I'm happy with Lumatek and like the dimmable feature. You can barely feel any warmth at all on mine.

hi i dont have much for digital ballast experience. mine are magnetic ballasts that are used in warehouses and industrial environments. i just make them remote and locate the ballast outside the room.
i suppose if i had money to spend, i would get a couple of 600w. digitals.
why do you want to go with a 1000w instead of another 600w? the 600w is more efficient as far as lumens per watt.

i don't know about the op but i would opt for a larger light just due to the fact that multiple ballasts draw more amps when you add them up.
about the ballast choice, i've only used lumatek, and if i ever get another ballast for any reason, it will be a lumatek. it has never failed, and it never gave me any crap about not using a special "dig ballast bulb". works for me.

I guess I just like my magnetic old school ballast. I've always heard more bad than good about digital ones. Then again, maybe I'm just not hip to the times, who knows.

I've been running an Ebay off brand digi ballast for a few months now. I got it in a whole light kit. No issues and ZERO noise.
My old magnetic was pretty damn loud, and very HOT to the touch. Damn thing always prevented me from taking a good pic in the room.

cool thanks everyone for some good info.....i might have to go with the lumatek on this one.....and how can people have so many ballasts with no electrical problems?? such as fires and stuff

I went with the Quantum brand 1000W dig ballast because I love the ability to "dim" the power, and more importantly it came with both 110V and 240v cables. I believe it also works with a wider range of bulbs. Look into ALL of the addtional features. Quantum has an excellent reputation and I have to agree.
