Until today Ive failed every single grow & have wasted alot of money only because achieving the right temp, humidity etc took a long time to find. Also many people have mentioned naturally its a difficult plant to grow & that it need more car than the other plants. To save noobies like me time & money I ask you what is the climate that youve found to be the most sucessful growing condition in your blueberry grow.
Blueberry growers only please
Try to include temperature, humidity, airflow, watering times & durations, mediums, UV, lighting, lighting distance & so on.
Blueberry is may current fav and I'm growing it right now. Don't know what strain you are using but to get the real stuff go with DJ Short BB or Dutch Passion BB (DJ Short is their BB seed supplier). DJ is the creator or the strain.
Regarding growing, well it can be tough. Nearly all of it will crinkle to various degrees in seedling stage, and most of it will hermie to some extent in flower. Once you get one in good veg state, it's as easy to flower as most other strains.
Lighting, humidity, feeding, etc. it's no different than any other plant, just go easy when starting from seed, as explained below. Genetics make it a bit freaky, that's all.
I veg under 23w high spectrum (5000k to 6500K) cfls, six to eight in a small 24 x 24 x 36" tall chamber. Once it starts growing well with a few five blade internodes you can repot it in good soil like FFOF and feed it very lightly.
The best advise I can give you is to plant it in a very light mix - as a seedling it can easily die in even slightly hot (fertilized or high nitrogen) soil. I have good results in a 50/50 mix of FFOF and spagnum peat (AKA Miracle Grow Seed Starter). DO NOT start BB in Miracle Grow potting soil. I wasted half a pack trying to start with FFOF until I started mixing it with MG Seed Starter.
Plant five or so in the light mix and treat them normally. YOu are likely to get a freak or two that crinkle beyond recognition. Crinkle is okay so long as the plant grows and continues to develop. Once you get to healthy five blade seedling you are good. It sould show sex after four to five weeks of healthy veg. It grows into a very big plant too. Once you have a good healthy female clone, clone, clone, because it clones easily. Out of five seeds you should get at least one keeper maybe two.
In flower some will hermie very heavily but often it's only on a single branch. You can cut that branch and use the pollen on the flowers to create female seeds. These seeds will produce plants that are very like the mother any are likey to create heavily hermied plants.
The best ones I've done will usually have just a few male flowers that produce only enough pollen to create a couple of seeds in the main buds. I've never had them pollenate any other nearby plants. The seeds you get from these females are very good to grow and are almost always female. They will produce about 50% plants that are just like the mother, and 50% plants that hermie too much for most people's liking.
So, with BB it's a numbers and selection game. Never seen one that did not hermie to some extent but if you manage it right you can get your own female seeds that produce at least 50% good plants.
This sounds like a pain but the smoke is worth it. Without a doubt my favorite smoke, and I've grown a lot of strains. The yeild is also good. Get a good female and clone it. That way you get around a lot of issues.
Attached are shots of a good BB at 45 days and at 60 days. You can see some mild nute burn on the fan leaf edges as I gave it a good dose of Tiger Bloom and some Kool bloom two weeks earlier. This girl produced over an OZ of sweet smelling potent smoke and I got five seeds out one bud area. I planted two and one keeper is now exactly like this, it's mother. The sideways shot is 45 days and yu can see the additional bulk created after the final feeding and fifteen days more flower time. I cut her right after the shot was taken.
Good luck!
