Hey guys,

Been growing this bagseed lady for 10 weeks, already a week into flowering.
Lights: CFL 4 x 23W 2700K + 1 x 23W 6500K
Medium: Organic-ish Soil(Mix of 2 types of potting soils with included perlite, organic and mineral fertilizers + added worm castings and used coffee grounds)
PH SHOULD be around 6.0 - 6.7 .
It's a micro grow with limited space, showed amazing and healthy growth the first 8 weeks, the problems started after i tried feeding her very small amounts of liquid mineral 7-3-7 fert.
She showed signs of a burnt tips, leaves curling up etc. My mistake is that i didn't flush her, instead i top dressed the soil with a very thin layer of worm castings and coffee grounds thinking that some kind of deficiency was the case and the next watering, things got worse.

After she suffered some more, meanwhile i was reading my ass off about nutrients (first grow), i finally decided to semi-flush her, hoping to flush the built up salts.
She perked right away with new, green growth, happy leaves, only this time i noticed another strange thing.
New leaves are thin and wilted(they straighten after a while) and on some leaves there are large brown spots, some occupying even half of the leaf.
Take a look at the photos and tell me what you think please.

Well no :???:, hoping that there is still enough in the soil.
I was afraid to give her any additional nutes not to cause additional damage.
You think i should give her a PK boost?

I meant P - Phosphorus, K - Potassium.
I was thinking the same thing, but i needed an opinion.
And what can I do about the issue with the leaves?

Whats the cofee grounds for?

you should get a bloom nute and up your lighting game.

When you have an issue and not sure what to do and think that the soil is out of whack then flush and renute and add back your microbes. Then that way you know that isnt it anymore and the plant can start to recover. Then you can try and figure out what else the issue is.

Maybe the bagseed isnt the best genetics but ok till you get some more experience. So basically you cant rule out crappy genetics.

Coffee grounds are high in N as is that 7-3-7 fert so you got what looks like nute burn and most likely the pH is off as coffee grounds are also pretty acidic I believe.

I feed bloom nutes/boosters a week before flipping to 12/12 to prime the pump. I've done side-by-side grows and got a lot more bud sites and much bigger colas than waiting until after the stretch. The plants need lots of everything during the stretch/growth spurt and can feed up to 4x as much as before and after. I did a lot of DWC and found that out by monitoring the daily ppm drop in my tubs over a number of grows.

Somehow the myth of waiting until after the stretch still persists like many other items of bro-science.

Thanks for the advice, i watch a lot of YT videos regarding this topic.
This is my first grow and i want to keep it as organic and simple as possible.
Some of the more advanced hemp fertilizers are very hard to get and expensive in my country as the laws are very strict.
So i don't plan on buying any of them.
Can you give me some organic and DIY advices?
Would banana peels tea be beneficial at this stage or i should wait till later?

Peace ✌

You dont need advance hemp fertilizers.
A nice tomato fertilizer will do just fine.
I guess you mean fertilizers that are marketed to weed growers. NPK is what you need to know and any fertilizer that is from a decent manufacturer that has something close to what you want to do will get you there.

No dont do banana peel tea

I'm not much into organic growing. I do better with hydro grows either in DWC or soilless blends Like ProMix HP. A tea made using well aged compost would work a lot better than one made from banana peels tho you could put lots of those in the compost to help make it better.

Update (Week 3 in flowering):

I tried flushing the soil with distiled water and afterwards i watered her with dechlorinated tap water with small amounts of molasses, algae bloom booster and worm castings compost tea, very tiny amounts untill 20% runoff.
Unfortunately, the symptoms continued and also got worse. Older leaves started dying so i plucked them off, pistils seem to develop nicely though, lots of trichomes showing up but the leaves look very unhappy.
All new leaves grow with purple-ish burned tips which as they mature, the burn progresses to the edges and eventually necrosis starts taking over.
Almost all leaves have interveinal chlorosis but the sugar leaves look darker and better but the tips and edges are still purple and serrated.
Any opinions?
I try not to overwater, the time between the top soil dries is about a week.

way too much nitrogen in that soil, idk why you keep adding more. stop adding any worm castings or coffee grounds they're making it worse. I'd probably try to remove that top dress you did too. keep it simple

You think the nitrogen is responsible for this?
Should i give her just plain water next time?
Also, the runoff is quite acidic, i tested with the strips and is below 6. My tap water ph is above 8 so i don't use anything to lower it since the soil si getting more acidic, maybe because of the peat moss decomposing.
I top dressed with coffee grounds only once btw, that was just before flipping her.
It's my first grow and i don't know what's going on anymore, i don't wanna starve her so that's why i gave her a weak solution of fert.
Thanks for all the advices, I'm getting desperate, what should i do next? :(

This:

I'm in FFOF, a fairly "hot" soil. I'm a bit phobic of using any nutes at all (no offense intended) because of pics like these.

IMHO much easier to add nutes slowly and keep adding a little more than it is to add a lot and have to flush.

I was gonna go without nutes as well but someone told me that the plant will use up most of them the first 4-6 weeks so i got worried..
I guess you're right, so from now on, i think I'll give her plain water and maybe a bit od molasses now and then untill harvest.
Thanks a lot for the advice, let me know how yours turns out with FFOF only, and maybe post a picture or two .

Thanks to everyone for the advices, if you have anything else to add, i would very much appreciate it. :bigjoint:

ok first off fuck with the testing the runoff that doesnt mean shit. You got a bullshit number and are making bullshit decisions based off of a bullshit number. Microbes regulate the soil ph at the root surface where it matters.

You watering in at an 8 ph means you have a nute lockout going on of sorts ...you water in at 6.5. Again microbes manage the ph at the root surface and when you first water in you are kind of doing hydro at that point with synthetic nutes that are readily available to the plant. What touches the roots gets absorbed by the roots. I dont know what your feeding it not going to look again but whatever... So you watering in at 8 fucks with everything.

get some microbes in there so you know that they are working for you.
Get a ppm meter cant know how many ppms your feeding it you cant really grow without one unless you have skills .
Get a ph meter, get ph drops to double check the ph meter when you have a big ph swing and test with the drops before you go adding things to adjust the ph of your water when in fact the meter took a shit on you.

again

no

the nitrogen isnt responsible for this... Excessive nitrogen will cause stretching and airy buds.
Your plants will look dark green in veg, with too much N in veg you want to take care of all the nitrogen stuff in veg then in flower you dont need that much. Nitrogen makes the plant grow which is good for veg, in flower you want to concentrate on bud production.

But you dont want to much nitrogen in flower as it will cause airy buds, small airy buds.

add some mag to it about 200 ppms for the next couple of waterings.

So far, I tried synthetic fertiliser once and it didn't work, the rest of the waterings I've been putting organic stuff in.
The algae bloom booster has a lot of microbes, micro nutrients and amino acids that aid the roots in supplying the plant with nutrients, also the liquid worm fert has humic and fulvic acid along with microbes that decompose organic matter and feed it to the roots.
If they regulate the ph, why does it matter to ph every watering?
If the soil becomes too acidic, wouldn't a higher ph water help to make it more alkaline?
Btw my tap water is pretty hard, loaded with calcium, magnesium in majority and other trace minerals, that's why i havent considered adding cal-mag.
