I've been doing alot of research lately on secret societies, and conspiracy theories concerning Globalization and the conception of "One World Government". While I wont get into that a common theme in that community is that Religion was created to Separate man from nature. To give us a false sense of entitlement, and to Push us into a mindset of elitism. Now I don't know if I personally agree with this, But I do agree while man has more reasoning skills than most other organisms we are in fact no better.
We're all equals. We're all pieces in the puzzle we call earth.

Discuss.
Not really going to read anyone else's posts. I've learned not to throw a hat into it when I feel like defending "religion".

I guess I'll just say that this entire question is flawed. It completely ignores the fact that the earliest religions (many of which are still around today) WORSHIPPED nature.

But I suppose the question is more after Judeo-Christianity, so I'll let it be. As much as I hate to say it, any religion that says that you should submit to the government, not touch women who are on their periods, and broadcast a pro-slavery message are not my bag.

Then again, I could dissect many Eastern religions, but I'm tired.

The answers you get depend entirely upon the question asked. ;)

With all due respect, I think that those comments should be better qualified. Are you referring to all religion? If so, I disagree completely. Again, I suggest Joseph Campbell.

I think by trying to generalize all religions into one "religion" is a big mistake. When discussing religion I think its important to specify which religion your talking about and at what time in history. Pre-christianity religions were almost all based on nature and god worship with lots of variations. The romans seemed to really take on monotheism which is when I believe "religion", well christianity, was really used as a means to control the daily thoughts and actions of the people and create power for the higher up priests and rulers of the time. Anyway I find many of the ideas and moral values from christianity to be quite good when looked at metaphorically, but there are many bad aspects when taken too literally and pushed to extremes. As far as being segregated from nature... I dont think any religion could do that. Just go outside. Swim in the ocean. Breath some air. If anything this computer im typing on right now is segregating me from nature... fun stuff tho always love to discuss things.. :blsmoke:

Not sure if ^^ was directed at me since nothing was quoted... but I'm guessing it was since it came right after my post.... so I'll comply and qualify my answer a little better.

Yes, it is my belief that ALL religion was created by some for the purpose of controlling the masses. I actually DESPISE organized religion and all the hypocrisy that goes with it.

We are all entitled to our own personal beliefs and opinions... that one just happens to be mine. I'm not at all interested in learning more about religion either. I'm happy and content in my beliefs as they are and have no desire to broaden my horizons in the arena of religion. I did go to church as a child... and I even tried it as a young adult.... it just doesn't work for me because I don't believe any of it.... no matter how hard I tried. To me all religions are tantamount to fairy tales.... Stories created to strike fear into the mind and make it a little easier to control the behavior of many.

I have a few friends who are religious.... we have an understanding... they don't try to talk me INTO believing in their god.... and I don't try to talk them OUT OF believing in their god. It works out pretty well :D

Thus, without clarification on every religion this question is targetting (though it isn't hard to tell), the question is irrelevant.

Generalization isn't just used by religion in a negative way. ;-)
