About time to get this thing going :)

This is my first grow as a med patient :leaf: and the first in MANY years. Would love some tips and advice along the way.

Strains: Paradise Seeds Wappa & Nirvana Blue Mystic
Soil: MG Organic garden soil mixed with native soil / perlite.
Nutes: Jacks 20-20-20 and 10-30-20
Lights: 400W HPS & 6 42W 6500K CFL's for side lighting

The Plans: Germinating today (soak in water for a day then paper towel method). When sprouted, plant in cup until transplant into 5 Gal pot. 24/0 with the CFL's for veg for about a month. Probably top both plants at 10". My cabinet is 6-1/2 feet tall so my plants can be a max of about 5 ft. For flowering I'll use a 400W HPS with DIY cooltube coupled with the surrounding veg CFL's for a total of 652W (326W per plant!)

The Cab: 82H x 33W x 23D. 4 80CFM PC fans as intake along with a small passive intake. Active Air 6" 400CFM fan as exhaust with a fan speed controller. Some DIY carbon filters will be used when flowering begins or when it starts stinking in veg. Probably throw in a ONA filter somewhere in the duct during flowering.

Pics of cab so far:

Cab is still under construction but will be finished in time for vegging to start. Still waiting on the Lumatek ballast and inline fan.

Thanks for looking and happy growin' :leaf:

Ok seeds are still in cups with water. I put them up in the attic where temps are in the mid 90's. Tomorrow afternoon Ill put them in moist papertowels up there and should see a sprout by Tuesday. Still trying to work out a bit of a temp problem.

My temps in the veg room are ok, but I know when I turn on the 400W for flower its going to be too hot even with my cooltube.

Alrighty, just finished putting the babies in their paper towel. The Blue Mystic already had sprouted a bit and the Wappa had cracked her shell and I can see the root. By tomorrow morning maybe they will be ready to plant in soil. Pics up tomorrow.

Man these things grew fast. Had them in a paper towel in the attic overnight and this morning they each had a 1cm root coming out. So after 1-1/2 days they are each under one 42W CFL. When they get to about 1-2 inches they'll each be under 2 42W, then after 1 week or so Ill turn on the full 6 42W CFL's. Im thinking about going ot get some new soil though. Im not sure I like the MG organic stuff... we shall see.

Hey thanks for chiming in man, yeah this cab is fairly small but then again it's just for personal use. Figure if I can grow 2 plants topped to 4-5' Ill get a decent crop. Ive read some good things about blue mystic ( I bought it mainly to keep the smell down this first go round). Next grow I will have more interesting strains (Sensi Star and Sour Kush probably).

hey man looking forward to see how your grow works out as Wappa is my seed of choice for when I start growing later on this year.

Make sure you post shitloads of pictures. :)

Will do man :D

Ok, so tonight my dumb ass decided it would be a good idea to transplant my seeds into better soil. So, I used some MG organic soil and mixed it with some native soil. It looks pretty damn good. However, I had to transplant the seeds so Im hoping and praying to the herb gods that they pull through this. I tried to make it as pain-free for them as possible :). Their tap roots were each about an inch long already! This morning they were only 1 cm when I planted them.

*Going to sleep tonight praying they make it through the night* :peace:

Ok got home from work today and these girls are on a roll. Wappa presented me her first set of leaves with the serrated ones poking through. The Blue Mystic still had her coat on but was getting ready for summer. Within 30 mins she was taking it off.

Ok, well I changed some things up since I started this grow. Took out the PC fans and put a 24" box fan in front of the cab to blow onto the babies until I pick up a cheapo fan at Walmart or something. Still getting temps at a steady 85F with all 6 42W CFL's on. I removed the "veg chamber" part of the cab to open it all up (no more perpetual grow). I got my 400CFM inline in the mail yesterday and set it all up. Turned it to medium speed with my fan speed controller. This really helped getting the hotter air out of the cab. Before the exhaust fan I had temps in the 86-91 range (:()

This evening I transplanted my girls into their final home (3 gal pots). I'll post pics up in the next few days but honestly they havent grown much (maybe heat?). Tomorrow is Day 6 so we shall see.

Material List:

400W Lumatek Ballast
Homemade Cooltube w/ reflector
400CFM Active Air Inline Fan (Decently quiet and beastly performance)
Hydrofarm Fan Speed Controller
Ultra Sun HPS Bulb
4 80CFM PC Fans
6 42W 6500K CFL's

Well my Wappa got burned by my light a bit, which probably explains why its growing so slow. Room is about 85F and CFL's are 3-4 inches away...

Day 6: (you cant quite see it but all the edges of the leaves are black and crispy :() Hope she pulls through...

Update:

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought some Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. My plants were not growing very well; the old soil I was using was garbage. I first started to know something was wrong when it was Day 10 and they hadnt changed since Day 6. So, on Friday I transplanted into FFOF. The growth has really astounded me. These ladies are way behind where they should be but they are recovering beautifully. Oh yeah I also switched over to the HPS and took out the CFL's, we'll see how that works. 18/6 lighting with the HPS.

Good to have you here man; unfortunately the BM has some nute burn but I havent added anything to the FFOF soil, so hopefully she pulls through. The Wappa is just so sexy... small, but I like my women short. She's already covered in trichs...

Purple I was wondering in your picture of the 400w in the cooltube, do you plan on having your 400cfm hooked up to that? Also are you going to use a filter of any kind on the same fan?

Ahh good question. I now have my fan hooked up to my cooltube and all is running smoothly at full power. When the plants start stinking I will attach my DIY carbon filter to the other end of the ducting connected to the cooltube.
