Georgia mom home alone with kids shoots ex-con intruder

A Georgia mother shot an ex-convict six times to protect her and her children after he apparently forced his way into the familys home.
The mom heard knocks on her front door Friday and assumed it was just a solicitor, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
She told her 9-year-old twins not to answer the door and, when the visitor began repeatedly ringing the doorbell, she called her husband at his job and he told her to gather the children and hide.
He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver.

According to the Journal-Constitution, the father then dialed 911 and his wife, who works from a home office, hid with the children in a crawlspace.
By that time, according to the paper, the intruder had used a crowbar to forcibly enter the home, and made his way to the home office.
He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver, Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The woman fired six bullets, five of which hit Paul Ali Slater in the face and neck area, Chapman said. But Slater, who has arrests dating to 2008 and was released from jail in August, was still conscious.
The guys face down, crying, the sheriff said. The woman told him to stay down or shed shoot again.
While down, the woman and her children ran to a neighbors house, and the injured intruder made it out of the home and into his car, the paper reported.
Authorities found Slater a short time later bleeding profusely in a neighbors driveway.
Im dying. Help me, he told them, according to Chapman.
Slater was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and is expected to survive, the sheriff said.

since you're so into staying in the past for the sake of a non existent threat, maybe you should bring back slavery. I mean your economys fucked and thats real, maybe you should focus more on that.
As an Englishman or as your supporters would say "dang liberal limeys" the thought of polluting our already over diverse gene pool with yanks makes me shudder. BUT you said people who dont like guns (ie assault rifles, pistols, things that have the potential danger that outweighs any rational reason for ownership, that includes "cuz theyre fun"). For the sake of argument id take these people, who we shall call "normals", under a few conditions. The remaining gun lovers who we shall call "compensators" have to all populate a small area, say a few states in the midwest. One week every month there should be a ban on MMA and the consumption of alcohol and the results need to be broadcast overseas to the rest of us. Where do I sign?

If I ask someone why they wanna drive they'll tell me to get from A to B, to travel. I'll take that, any reasonable person would. If you ask someone why they wanna own an assault rifle they'll start pissing their pants about their rights to own big macho guns but wont have anything of actual substance. Millions travel every day without getting into fatal accidents. I'm sure there are people that go their whole lives without being shot, but then there are plenty of examples where little jimmy picks up his daddys pistol hes left lying around and kills himself or his dad. Most deaths are unnecessary but not all are preventable.. these are. ANd yes just recently we had a guy in a van drive onto the pavement and take people out. And like you, our resident idiots from top gear with their compensating agenda said oh i guess we're gonna ban all vans now. Guess what, he was ridiculed for being a tool. And yeah for someone with trolling as your username you didnt really spot hyperbole too well. At least my slavery comment was in jest unlike comparing cars to semi automatic guns

As an American I couldn't possibly give one iota of a fuck less about what any Englishman has to say about something that isn't even occurring in their country. The thought of the gene pool being expanded my cowards like you, who likely wouldn't ever try to protect themselves if need be, and who do whatever their government tells them is in their best interest with no questions asked, makes me shudder.... Yeah, it's possible, even probable, that a tyrannical government isn't going to rear it's ugly head in 2013, but just dismissing the possibility of such a thing happening is pretty short sighted.
I hate making these kinds of comparisons but I'll do it anyway: You are aware that Austria didn't turn into a totalitarian entity overnight after they voted to annex themselves to Nazi Germany, right? Probably not. It took five years for Nazi Germany to transform Austria into what it would become. During that five year period Hitler made all Austrians register their guns, which they all (or most, I don't have any hard numbers here) did. He did this because "people were getting injured" by them. Not surprisingly, shortly thereafter it was decided that it was best if everyone just turned in their guns, and how could they refuse...it was already known who had them. Now there was no way for the Austrians to fight effectively for the way of life that was being taken from them.
Let's also not forget Germany's own gun control at that time. Or maybe we could say something gun control policies under Stalin, who ended up being such a benevolent leader. Or maybe Mao, or Pol Pot?
I'm sure you'll have a convenient argument against those points, but then we come back to the fact that I, and I suspect most people, don't give a fuck about what some people across the Atlantic Ocean think about anything over here.
How does slavery play into anything here? Maybe this will interest you. The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 in England. This was an act of parliament abolishing slavery throughout the British Empire (with the exceptions "of the Territories in the Possession of the East India Company," the "Island of Ceylon," and "the Island of Saint Helena", which exceptions were eliminated in 1843) Basically what I'm getting at is that while you're busy fingering yourself with these ideas about how the UK is so morally superior the US, you're just ignorant of, or conveniently forgetting, the fact that the UK has done many of the same things...and worse. Ever heard of India?
Maybe you should pay more attention to the news...we are dealing with our economic problems, in one way or another, before we bother dealing with the non-issue of gun control. You do realize that there wasn't a dramatic decrease in violence when we banned assault rifles (read, black rifles that scare stupid people) in the 90's, and there also wasn't an increase in violence when those same bans expired? No, probably not. Way more people die every single year in America from things that are much more easily dealt with than firearms, such as medical malpractice. Ever heard of a red herring? Maybe we should deal with those things that are much more easily fixed, and that kill many more people, before we waste time on a perceived problem that is really the result of a broken mental health system.

What I don't understand is why like this guy people need to own over 50 guns. If it is to defend yourself isn't 1 or 2 guns enough?

Here in the U.K. you can own a shotgun if you go clay or grouse shooting. You need a licence and it has to be locked away when not in use. I sometimes go shooting with friends and whilst I enjoy it I wouldn't get to upset about not owning one. But then I have never encountered gun or knife crime. In fact the only violence i have encountered is with fists.
Alex Jones also didn't come across as exactly a well balanced individual either. He was very aggressive, the sort of person who would prob like to settle his disagreements by violence. I think at one point he even challenges Piers to a boxing match. That isn't exactly first amendment is it? I don't like what you are saying so I will beat you up.
I myself don't really care if guns are banned or compulsory tbh. I don't live in America so isn't my problem.

So nobody has EVER told you they love to drive because it's fun, really? This comparison can be the same thing because cars can be necessary and fun and they can kill people if you're not careful.

Millions of gun owners live everyday without any gun accidents, see it yet? I'm sure accidents do happen from time to time but I'm sure there are plenty of examples of a drunk driver killing a family of 6, get it yet?
You're correct, most deaths are unnecessary and not preventable but what happens when a burgler or rapist comes into the house, what is a home alone kid or woman suppose to do? What if there are multiple suspects? What about an elderly person? These CAN be preventable...

And why is it that Jay Leno is allowed to have over 200 cars in his collection ?
He obviously only needs one to get to and from work - why does he need so many.
Secondly many of those cars can far exceed the posted speed limit, so why does he need so much horsepower.

My point was in question to the OP point about 'I need a gun to defend myself against.....' and the guy in the video at some point makes reference to needing to defend his family. Which i understand. I have a cricket bat (cricket is a bit like baseball only better
) laying around in my bedroom and if some little scrote brakes into my house i will not think twice about wrapping around his head. But i wouldn't wont to kill them, I would like them to see justice. But then it is very unusual for thieves in this country to be armed with more than a knife.

Im noticing how all of a sudden we are seeing wayyy more gun incidents in the news than before. Now i dont own any guns and besides firing an m9 once, have never shot a gun. So its not like Im a die hard protector of guns because I dont want all my guns confiscated. But, They are trying to ban assault rifles for the reason of assault rifles being used to kill some many lately in the news. Now I see this on a shotgun. And I thought whoa, if they can succeed with banning assault rifles, than they could ban shotguns down the line if there is a bunch of incidents in the news with shotguns killing people all at once, and then they could ban semi automatic handguns if there are a lot of incidents of those in the news all at once. Shit ...its quite possible there may be eventually a ban on all guns and an abolishment of the 2nd amendment.
