Vegging with T5 then Flowering with HPS Causes Problems?

I was told that vegging with a T5 light and then flowering under an HPS (600w in my situation) would shock my plants and cause them to stretch. The person telling me this is very experienced and knows what he is talking about, but I've seen a couple threads on here of people doing that, nobody seemed to complain. Can someone englighten me?

i veg under 200w CFL and flower using 600w hps. Tell your experienced guy to get his lights closer, if he cant get them closer because of heat he needs to go aircooled to be able too. lol.

here are my seeds just popped and now under two x T5 tube Lamp unit 20/4.
in the first 2 pictures you can see how close the plants are to the lamps.
you can see one is a bit stretched the northern lights, i will be using 600w hps very shortly for vegging ( yes vegging )20/4 then eventually change to 12/12
my plants are always fat and about 2.5 - 3 feet MAX fully grown with lots of bud after 6 weeks, and i will soon fatten that northern lights baby up.
5 of these are barney's farm lsd so i dont know what the outcome of that will be, as i have not used them before, 1 purple haze, the other 3 are mixed breed hybrid, but my fingers are crossed.

ha ha , i found a problem i was unaware of, i noticed that the two tubes in my T5 are different spectrum, i never knew this, i have turned the tray last night 180 degrees and the lsd are doing a lot better today, i am going to turn the tray daily until monday when i put them under 600w hps.

I veg ALL my plants under T5 for 30 days and then to a tent with 400w hps...no prob ....although I do make sure my ventilation is adequate to keep my light lower without heat probs....if ya have your light too high, your plant will stretch for it...I'm sure that's what your friend was referring to....

I only veg using a 30k lumen T5 and I flower with a 1000W HPS and no there are never any problems besides a lot of stretch. I use a T5 because its a lot cheaper on my AC bill versus 18/6 hours using a 1000W MH, and I get more use out of my ballast.
