It's just annoying to see someone getting g upset about another company using the numbers550 in their Fucking name. Every single Fucking HPS or MH ballast setup always has the wattage on it, so why the fuck is LED any different?

Lolololol I'd call it THE REALITY OF THE TRUTH.
It's not a bad thing they did it. They obviously made plenty of money.
It's also bashing and you can't have it both ways.

They recouped their costs and they're making a living, not a killing. Is it your contention that people can't make a profit from their efforts?

Why don't you try looking into the economics of designing, building and selling LED lighting before running your mouth- or is that too much trouble for you?

Wow. You really missed the point of the whole post. Which is a different thread by the way. We're in this one to discuss UV lighting, it's effect on growing cannabis, hardware and build discussion.
But reading doesn't seem to be your strong point.

Pharmaceutical companies use the same arguments to justify exorbitant prices of new drugs, so there's that...

Many companies sell their products to other companies and allow them to sell it under their own name. What if the Agromax boards are in reality true QB's sold to Agromax?
It's actually an OEM product cuz Samsung assembled these boards, not HLG. Pretty sure the contract with Samsung is somehow limited for a certain amount of time and needs to be renewed at some point.
This means even Samsung can sell them to other companies when the contracts with HLG have expired.

Or lets say HLG sells 10k boards per year. If they give the boards to Agromax they sell maybe another 5k boards per anno but with slightly smaller profit. No one knows if Agromax use cheap Meizu or R2T boards or true QB's.
It's all guesses and half-truths ...

Is it illegal ..? No!
Is it like writing off your classmates because you have not learned yourself? For sure and for that behavior you can give them a bad grade but ... actually it's pretty clever to let others do the work.
Have you never done it? Do you see...

True is, HLG has no patent for their QB design and so it was just a matter of time until you see others doing the exact same.
It's called business..

Lol! With the difference that QB's are not exorbitantly priced out like a new cancer medicament. They have calculated a price which allows them to found a company, pay they workers, pay rent, VAT and all other things.
100-150% premium is the minimum for any company who has developed an own product otherwise they will go bankrupt at some point.
Pharmaceutical companies want up to 5000% more in the first year (called price determination phase) before they go down to a more "normal" price level. And medicaments are always worldwide patented for at least 15 years. This costs a few millions...
In the moment the patent is expired almost all other pharma companies start to produce exactly the same medicament.
Think on Aspirin® and ASS, Valium® and Diazepam... Earlier there was a ©, today it's just an ®... Use another name and its allowed to make your own.
Your comparison lags bit ...

I doubt it. What's more likely is the use of knock off boards using less expensive chips.

Yeah, an if so buyers can expect not to get top bin diodes like usual with all these meizu, r2t or bava boards. They are maybe called the same but you don't get QB's made by Samsung. 100$ less like a HLG-550..? Shit, no! When I can get these chinese copy boards for ~30$. Below is a price list, btw.

Calculating is exactly what you do when you have an own business. You do it actually all the time! You know, at the beginning you can make a higher profit per board and later when the prices came down because of comparable products you need to sell more of them or develope something new again to still stay ahead of the others.

But let's stop this discussion here! We have discussed these copy cats many time and in too much threads. It leads always to the same result..
