using seed markings to predict characteristics based on parents

i will give a little background first so bear with me here. last round i had a herm (mr nice master kush x afghan haze) that only hermed on select branches about 2 weeks in. i removed these branches and let it live because i didn't have enough plants. so i ended up with a few seeds, no big deal. i had a pineapple chunk in there that i wish to god i had cloned but i did not. so the seeds in my pineapple chunk were (kush x haze) x pineapple chunk. now i know all about how i can expect several hermies from the seeds so please spare the lecture. here's the point. when i planted these "parents" the p chunk had tiger stripe seeds and the kush cross had plain seeds, and the p chunk ended up birthing seeds of both markings. so my question is this: will the striped seeds be more likely to express characteristics of the p chunk and therefore be less likely to herm? or will they be more likely to express characteristics of the p chunk but have an equal chance to herm? or does it all mean nothing whatsoever? basically i am hoping to find at least one jewel in the rough because both plants ended up being killer. i will be planting just one of these seeds each round because i refuse to dedicate much space and i am just wondering if in this case the markings would be of any use. my guess is probably not, but it is worth mentioning that out of about 12 seeds from that i got from that plant, only 4 were striped, and i plan on planting these first.

It would be nice if it worked that way but I'm afraid it's not that simple. Both parents give an equal amount of genes to the seedling and that is what is going to determine the phenotypes of the plant. That's probably what you are seeing, different seed phenotypes. Regardless of the makeup of one specific trait, another trait could be completely different. You will probably get plants that are extremely different in fact I would put money on that. At best you will maybe see 50% of a single trait in common and considering their origin I wouldn't be too eager to grow them out myself unless your just looking for a special plant to keep as a mother. That will take a lot of plants a lot of time and the ability to keep clones of the plants until they can all be tested for selection.

that's what i figured. i have 12 seeds and i'm only growing 1 per wave in my semi perpetual so i could be at this for quite a while. i really am looking for that special plant and i will mom the shit out of her. plus to my delight i have somehow accidentally revegged the pineapple chunk just by setting it on the pantry counter for a month. i was only being lazy and i went to harvest the popcorn on it today and it had little shoots. i got 4 cuttings, all less than 2 inches tall but with plenty of leaf. i threw them in plugs and i'm crossing my fingers. i have more seeds of the kush x haze, but the p chunk pheno i had was quite special and it was a freebie. hopefully i'll get the chance to cross the two properly but for now i just have the herm spawns. out of 12 i'm only thinking about 2 or 3 will be true female, and they could suck for all i know.
