underground grow idea

I was just thinking...if you have a backyard with a patch of land out of sight...you could do a stealth grow in the ground.
(See Attachment)

Obviously there are some problems with this set up, like accessing the plants, and being seen accessing the plants. An automated hydro system would probably make it work well.

Just sharin an idea ;) PS: That's like a 4-6ft tall box.

thats cool do you mean to grow the whole thing underground?
thatd be a deep hole.
and if not then it wouldnt be stealth cuz it would rise to the soil eventually?

...what..? It's underground, like an underground room but smaller scale. On top is a wooden flap/swinging door with dirt and grass on top, when you close it , it looks like normal ground.

Not to be a downer but why not just get a shed? I think I would get really curious if i saw my neighbor open a trap door in his lawn haha

I would be concerned about getting fresh air in there. Plants need the air surrounding them to be replaced every 5-10 minutes. Otherwise, I think it's a really novel idea.

I would definitely line the hole with a pond liner or something and then covering the lining with mylar.

I don't know how true it is, when people say that the government flies over our houses with heat-seeking helicopters, but if it is true, I'm sure an underground hot spot would be difficult to explain.

I wonder if any of those baby boomers are currently putting their bomb shelters to use for this very purpose!

And you can place a shed over it, that way your neighbors only see you go into a shed and not a trap door. And if your shed is found, they probably wouldn't think to look under it, anyway.

i have thought this over myself, here's some thoughts on it
it could be fabulous stealth, but a couple of issues
one is the path that will form to it, it's going to show
PapayaTwins shed idea is good though, that would explain a path
the other is this is outside of your house, search in your house has constitutional safeguards
your outside property is a different beast, and may not be as restricted
in other words, police may be able to search your outside property without a warrant in some cases

A decent amount of large scale growers do just this, but they often use shipping containers instead of a wooden box which when you consider moisture, and the pressure the box will be seeing seems like a much better way to go to me. Of course thats to large for many people, but I would probably try and construct my own metal box.
