This guy is here with a cold bucket of water.

I do agree with his last point: that man is ultimately a political problem, and it’s up to the voters to provide a political solution. (He does not say, but I think it is evident, that such a solution would apply to the bigger problem of the entire party having aligned behind dishonesty in the service of an intended authoritarian coup.)

Trump federally indicted! Here's what we can expect in the coming days

19,559 views Jun 8, 2023 #TeamJustice
Today is a good day for the rule of law and for American democracy. For the first time in our nation's history, a criminal former president has been federal indicted for some of the crimes he committed in violation of the laws of the United States.

Today is also a good day for the millions of American who respect the rule of law and expect high government officials to be held accountable when they violate our laws. It's also a good day for our friends around the world who have been pulling for our democracy, hoping that we could repair and rebuild a government that Donald Tump and his criminal associates tried, by their own admission, to deconstruct.

Today is a good day for justice. And justice matters.

This little tidbit was extracted from the NY Time's live updates on the matter.

If "two hours ago" is accurate, this meeting in Bedminster was held at 8:30 pm ET. I underlined some text for emphasis.

Trump is primarily with his political advisers tonight. Most or all of his legal advisers are not with him at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J.

They are having a freakout party and sweating bullets, how many of them will go down with him?

I wonder about Jared alone in a WH office with a bunch of classified documents and a cellphone, he might have earned that 2 billion bucks selling secrets to the Saudis for cash and Israel for favors. Meanwhile Donald let's MBS get away with murder and do lots of other favors and it looks like he tried to attack Iran for them, but Milley stopped him. That would have been worth many billions to MBS, having Uncle Sam attack Iran illegally and thousands of dead Americans. Maybe they will use the PGA to buy his golf courses, but I hear there is trouble from congress about selling out to the Saudis.

This really shows how scared the democrats are. This will invigorate the GOP. Many that were leaning toward desanctamonius will cast their vote for the martyr.
I'm fairly certain that most Democratic strategists think that Trump would be the easiest GOP candidate for Biden to beat in 2024. There are almost no 2020 Biden voters who would vote for Trump in 24 but lots of 2020 Trump voters lost faith in Trump after he tried to overthrow the last election. Most of those folks would likely vote Biden in 24 in a rematch. But most Democrats are concerned that if that proves wrong, that Trump's election could lead to the end of American democracy.

But Trump's prosecution and conviction will deter further insurrection and political violence among the theocrats, authoritarians, culture warriors, and gun enthusiasts who make up the "lets burn it all down" crowd who now control the GOP.

Trump admits on tape he didn’t declassify ‘secret information’: CNN
Former President Trump admitted in a July 2021 recording that he had not declassified “secret information” that remained in his possession, CNN reported Friday.

“As president, I could have declassified, but now I can’t,” Trump said, according to a transcript of the recording obtained by CNN.

“Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this,” he reportedly said at another point. “This was done by the military and given to me.”
Trump said on Thursday night that he has been indicted in the classified documents case being overseen by special counsel Jack Smith.
CNN had previously reported that federal prosecutors had obtained a recording of the July 2021 meeting, in which the former president appeared to acknowledge that a Pentagon document in his possession about a potential attack on Iran remained classified.

However, the transcript captures Trump explicitly saying that he had not declassified the document and could no longer do so, despite his later claims.

In the meeting with two authors working on an autobiography for his former chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump reportedly sought to counter a recent article from The New Yorker that suggested that Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had dissuaded him from attacking Iran.
“He said that I wanted to attack Iran. Isn’t that amazing?” Trump said, according to CNN. “I have a big pile of papers, this thing just came up. Look. This was him. They presented me this — this is off the record, but — they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and him.”

“All sorts of stuff — pages long, look,” he reportedly added. “Wait a minute, let’s see here. I just found, isn’t that amazing? This totally wins my case, you know. Except it is like, highly confidential. Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this.”

They got him by the balls a dozen different ways for all the counts in Florida and more charges may drop in DC for him personally over the MAL documents. I wonder how many others are going down with him over the documents and if conspiracy will be charged to ensnare them all and make them rat or want to. Will any of the underlings go to jail until trial if conspiracy over the classified documents is charged? There could be a dozen people involved here who have legal exposure including lawyers, Boris Epshteyn for sure.
