Good find. I've been meaning to post something like this myself but never bothered to post pics or find them already online.

i bought a 60x-100x microscope to see this. but can't you tell this from the naked eye? without a microscope?

It takes experiance with the strain and growing to do this well with the naked eye. I think 40x is the best for this. But it can still be done with a more powerful scope. Forty power lets you see multiple stalked trichomes simultaneously.

I use a 100X cheapo microscope from Ebay, and it works great. I can also see the trichs with the naked eye, and I can tell when they are turning amber, because they'll start getting a 'golden look' to them. As mentioned above, you'll be able to know when they're finished after you've had the strain for a few grows, without the aid of a microscope, magnifying glass, etc......

Hope that helps some too. I was also looking for a picture of overriped bracts with broken glandular heads and very amber and dark, bent stalks. Pretty obvious when you see it that it's past it's time.

The trichromes look like frost to the naked eye. You need a 'scope to see the individual ones to determine their
state of development. I use a 30X lighted scope and it works fine.

Good Harvest, BigSteve.

i like the cloudy/amber mix to be opposite the indica/sativa dominance. i harvest an indica dominant strain slightly early and the sativa's later to get a mixed effect.

btw, rip mac dre.

I don't go by the trichomes, I wait till all the white hairs have receeded back into the buds, and I mean almost every one...I don't overgrow them but I do like a couchlock stone... :-) Usually takes anywhere from 8-12 weeks depending on the strain....:-)That's why I don't like full sativas, they take too long...lol...

doesnt the thc degrade after a certain point? if im playing it safe i harvest at 10% for indica, 30% for sativa, 10-30% for hybrids.
