Topping

Can someone either explain the topping process or just link to some place that has detailed explanation of why and how to?

thanks!

topping is easy.when you top your plants then your plant will have 2 tops instead of one and because of that your plants may carry more bud(like a strain called Bluberry)
then you can clone your topped plant(the top you have topped)
hope i helped
keep up the good work

u explained what topping is...HOW DO YOU DO IT?

You take a knife and repeatedly stab the top of the plant until it bleeds green goo :spew::shock:

Or........you can look at the top of your plant and check to see if the topmost node has 2 new sprouts growing out the sides of the mainstem. Then carefully clip the mainstem with a small scissor and leave the 2 new side sprouts intact. They will become your new mainstems and the growth underneath will catch up. :eyesmoke:

topping is basically cutting the top part or top section of your plant it dosnt matter how little or much you choose to take but i find for a bigger affect take more and for a smaller effect cut less, i use to top 80% of my babbies but i found i preffer the f.i.m technique better as it dosnt stress them as much and you still get multiple heads also you can continue to fim so by the end of flower you've got atleast 12 main cola's the reason i dont like to top is that it can stunt or stop grow5th for to long and by the end of it you have only a few more main cola'a where as you have more over all control when the fim is used here's a pic to give u an idea of what i mean any question's feel free
hope this helps

Does the mainstem remain growing when you FIM? How do you FIM? Just slightly pinch the top bud without pulling it off?

Thx

exactly that howtired the mainstem continues growth but the tip you cut grow's at a slower pace allowing the plant to concentrate on girth just get a sml pair of scissors and take anywhere from 20 % -80% of the tip, do it all over the plant if you want i prefer to just take the tip maybe 20% when you do this all of the other branches will show growth in competition, trying to out do the tallest, ill post a pic how the finished result's are if i remember, this way the growth stays constant and more even instead of slowing down more tops guaranteed:weed:

You don't have to cut your plants up at all to get multiple strong colas.

This method is faster and results in superior plants.

I have personally experimented with this process for many years with great results.

Bend the growing tip of the plant over past 90 degrees as soon as it is tall enough to do so without breaking the plant.

Here is a plant that was just bent over. I use a common twist tie to actually connect the growing tip to the stem of the plant.

This is the same plant about 15 days later with 7 nice stems for cloning or flowering. It takes a week for a plant to even get over the shock of topping.
:weed:

When I am going to flower the stems are usually strong enough to support themselves, and the best part is the main stem is still intact for the single best possible bud from that plant.

Every other stem that plant produces will be inferior in quality and quantity to the main stem.

How long do you leave the twist tie on?

At some point the stem will take on the shape that you give it and it will not be needed.

It was less than 10 days.

If I were going to flower that plant I would have vegged it a week or more longer and tied the fastest growing stems down to the side of the pot with string to keep them all the same height.

Don't tie things tightly to the plant or it will strangle it, and that is bad.

I didn't go that far with this one as I just wanted 7-9 inch clones off her.

Don't wait too long to flower either, as weed will take off growing for a few weeks after flowering starts and they will surprise you how much room they will take up.

i do agree with u kcw555 some times i use the fim alongside with this tech i started using that tech about 13 yrs ago "lst" i read it in a book by mel frank "hydroponic gardening" its a tried and tested tech, but each man to his own i second what scott blakey said "ill try anything atleast 500 times" all of the above are tried & proven ways of increasing width and more branching but it all depends on how you like your plants to look in the end, each is great for promoting new growth but in the words of (afro samurai) "if a boxer only jabbed he wouldnt be a boxer if he jabbed, hooked and blocked, then he would be a boxer, everything we do is a means to an hopefully good end one move alone is only one move
but like i said aint no bitching over here
ITS AN OLD FAVORITE & IT DOES WRK:peace:nice work bro
