Too Much Air?

The extra bubbles will def help out and whatever they dont use will still be circualting the water. I dont think you can go wrong. But on the same note, I don't like my cab to get over 80. Esp not up to 88. They will still grow but usually growth starts to slow above like 84 or so. So if you can drop your cab temps somehow. I like to be around 76-78. But thats just me

You mention the commercial air pumps, I ordered one and it's on the way thru mail. Are they bad? It is a 70 LPM commercial air pump from eBay
I work with a lot of machines so when i researched diaphragm vs. commercial air pumps i was stoked on the principles of how it worked vs a diaphragm pump, less chance of it wearing out unexpectedly. However i did not consider the amount of heat the damn thing would generate, I have found that without a dedicated fan blowing directly on the pump itself it will generate so much heat that it is heating all 4-6 res's i run at a time. Not a bad theory, just not good at dissapating the heat the cylinder generates. The cooling fins only work if you have air flow, that is why i have the dedicated fan.

water can only absorb a certain amoun of o2 at certain temps...
True dat. My understanding is that colder water utlilizes much more oxygen - which is why the artic/antarctica waters are so plentiful with life, abunadance of o2.
What is the perfect temp in your guys opinion? How low have you taken it before growth is stunned? Right now my target temp is 62, that's where they've been at all winter and I've had great results.

Only once the bubbles start displacing the contents of the res all over the floor should you start worrying :D

That's what I'm wanting to hear! Might order a few more of those bad boys' depending on my results.

68 or so is ideal, have gone up as high as 72-75 with limited issues. But i am pretty sure that 68 has been the agreed upon "best" though.

yeah 86-88 is way too hot! that could give you major root rot problems. im told dont go higher than 74. personally mine is about 62-68. you cant have too much air in the water. colder water can also hold more oxygen.

Mine was 68 and I thought I was a rock star. Now it hovers around 72 and I haven't experienced any problems although it sure as hell seems warm to me. I think it depends on the type of system as well. If it was DWC and I was at 72 I would be worried about the o2 content. But I'm flood and drain in hydroton so oxygen in the root zone is a non-issue.

65-70 rez temp is ideal. anything over 75 promotes algae growth.
right now my rez temps stay around 66, so once I get the new pump if it causes a problem with temps then I may have to move it outside the cab

The issue with moving it out of the cab is the air that it heats is going straight into your rez, i suggest a fan just for the pump

Gotcha. I'll have to see if it causes an issue before I worry over it for now. Supposed to be getting it withing a day or so
