This week by week shit is confusing

It doesn't really matter. The plant will be done when it's done. You shouldn't mark a harvest date on your calendar based on weeks in flower. Even if the description of the strain says 8 weeks it could very well take 11 weeks until it's ready to harvest. It's time to harvest when the buds have swelled, the calyx's have receded, and the trichomes have gone cloudy and on some strains the trichomes will start turning amber.

Edit:

I meant calyx's have swelled and pistils receded.
Exactly. Every plant even from the same strain is done when she’s done.

Ok so when you first put a plant into flower it’s considered week 1 day 1 am I right? So when you let a plant go to week 9 it’s really only 8 weeks old? Am I wrong can someone give me some insight on this?
... and then you have week 1, day 7. There is the beginning of each week, as well as it’s end, At the beggining of 9, it’s only completed 8, at the end of 9...

Go by “days”, or completed weeks “and so many days”.

Been there done that :). Gotta love real sativas! I stopped "counting" years ago. I keep track of which plants are in each of my perpetual cycles and then just stRt harvesting when each plant is ready.
Been doing it that way for decades.

I feel that this "counting" thing is a propaganda ploy. Thought up by nutrient makers that employ "boosters" and high P bloom formula's.
Add this at that week and that at this week......Your now a "Grand Master Grower" by using our mostly useless garbage that stunted the growth of your wallet more then helped your plant grow....In most case's, it hurt the growth somewhere!

Learn what "done" is and then learn to grow for the potential of the strain...
I'm 61 now, and still don't hurry anything.....All good things, come to those who wait!

This is where I lost a bit a patience and logging times. Once I made it to the Beginning of week 8 from site of flower week 10 from flip ... I didn’t let that week 8 complete itself.. leading me to believe I chopped to early. Even tho tric was ok to me so I thought

I don't know why you would count anything other then completed time. Like was pointed out earlier in the thread you don't say a baby is 1 year old until it has completely the first year. The same goes for our babies in the garden.

They don't know what week or day you think it is :). They are just growing till they are done. Counting time greatly confuses the flowering process imho. Most new growers get these time frames in their heads and think the plants are going to grow according to what they are wanting. Then when they get to that arbitrary number they start freaking out "can I cut it, can I cut it"?

There are not many plants that will be finished and mature in 8 weeks of 12/12 time.

Most Indica dom plants will take 7-9 weeks of actual flower time. Most hybrid plants will take 9-12 weeks of actual flower time. Then hell Sativas can go anywhere from 12-16+ very easily.

I'm in no way saying that there aren't exceptions to this, but as a general rule these numbers are pretty safe averages. Cutting your plants early is the biggest reason for bad tasting or smelling buds, and is the main reason new growers aren't happy with their first harvest. You can't cut a plant early and then fix the smell with the cure. It might get better but it won't get as good as it would have been if you hadn't chopped early.

It's like no newbies can wrap their heads around the fact that every grow environment is different in some way...
A "breeder report" is only what "he" got in "his environment and with his feeding"! Then you have to take into account what "his" interpretation of a "week" is. AND what "his" interpretation of what "done" is!

Your environment is going to produce different growth rates and growth patterns!

Figuring out what "done" is......IS the first step...To a good harvest!

Then there are the growers that mark a date on the calendar based off of the description of the strain. The description says 8 weeks so they mark a date 8 weeks out on their calendar to harvest. Then they post a picture of their plants at week 7 and say they're harvesting next week when anyone that's been growing can tell the plant needs another month. Then they argue and say it's an 8 week strain and go ahead and chop a plant with nothing but white pistils. They'll then post again saying the strain is no good or slam the breeder as having bad genetics when in fact they harvested way too soon and also screwed their grow up by over fertilizing and dumping too much crap on their plants.

Excellent points xtsho.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I try to educate people on the PROPER way to count a plants life cycle based on biology. If you must count its age, then base that count on something real like when the flowers start, not an arbitrary number like 12/12 flip :).

Breeder times are much more accurate when you do count accurately. But the plants still won't finish till they are done lol.

I'm very guilty of not learning this quickly too. I spent a good year or more chopping down strains no where near done just because it was 9 weeks from flip and I figured that was more than 8... lol - Lots of white hairs - I'm mean to be honest it's not like it was terrible or anything, but I plan to go back and grow out some seeds I have from some of those early strains I grew and give them another go... I'm sure they're a lot better than I remember. I can remember as a newb wondering why sometimes the same strain would not taste as good or not be as potent as other runs... I'm sure it was just taking them too early. A.K.A the environment played a big part too :)

They will surprise you, for sure!

Was mentoring a guy around 9 years ago or so. Had given him some kick'en Blue Cheese! Got to breeder times and I went over to visit while he was working the op. Came too late as he had cut down one of the two B Cheese's...Told him he was 2-3 weeks out yet....He was no way into believing me on that one. In his court, they did look close but, he went by Buddh's time...
Convinced him to not chop #2 till "I" said to..

Yuppers, 3 weeks later it was done.. They dried and cured... We went out to play some buzztime trivia and tip a few. Burned his the first day.. Nice but, to me lacking in depth and body.
Next day, repeat trip. Burned the one I had him keep running on.....He almost had a panic attack driving! "OMG, this is not just stronger but, it's that "deeper" thing you talked about!"

He bought $20 Porterhouses and grilled for us that night.... To this day, he always runs long, and has found the "sweet spot" to harvest in...

BE PATIENT!

I think what freaked me out was the fact that I didn’t want the cbd effect or a late harvest had me paranoid of harvesting to late... just flat out babying the darn plants... and now I’m working on knowing what done is..I’m pretty sure all of mine would have been better... even the ones I liked...

You don't get a 'CBD' effect from letting pot go too long unless you are growing CBD strains. What you are talking about is CBN effect aka CouchLock. When trichs go amber it indicates the THC is breaking down to CBN which promotes sleep. I crop when most trichs are cloudy and very few amber. They can go amber later in the jars as they cure if left long enough.

you really wanna learn patience, start making producing for yourself your own seeds, or get a friendly bag of seed that you don't know any history about them. Those two will really throw you for a loop in the patience arena.

To save all the cofusion. She will be done when she's done. Only time I count is if I'm putting more in from seed. Then I will plant the seeds around 3 weeks from harvest by the time of harvest the new plants are ready for transplanting I to the big pots I harvested from.
