This was an autoflower that I accidentally topped...

Topping had nothing to do with it stunting. "This is the Money" The money would have been 3 weeks later. You chopped way to early. You don't have to bend over the plant like you did either if you top it. The lower branches will catch up on their own giving you a nice even canopy without all the work.

Not every auto strain can tolerate it , some stunt , some don’t. I can top sativa heavy autos with less problems than some hybrids ... those i LST or bebd them over from the start ( lowers and mid branches go vertical ) then lst to shape. Easier to do and it makes a canopy pretty god damn easy.

Top'd these on day 21. Pics was day 28 from seed. All strains in different 4ft x 4ft tents.

I hate having one main cola. It sucks. More chance of it getting bud rot. More chance of it growing in to the light. By the end of a grow a topped auto usually looks great. I have grown auto's under led and have had just over 12 ounces off one. But that was 1 plant in a 3ft tent. Plus I get a few £ from growing so my plants get spoilt rotten

Anyway. I doubt I will ever grow another auto without topping it.

I've just sprouted 4 Killer Kush Autos, was wondering if you or anyone here has grown and/or topped them?

Not grown that before, but just top it anyway. I watched a few growers that topped on day 21 and just copied them  It gives it 3 weeks to grow before you slow it down with topping. By then there are way more branches.

I usually leave the little nodes on he bottom of the plants. Then I'll harvest half the plant and then run the lower half for 2 weeks more. The are small so be condensed. If it had 4 plants in before, once you chop half off you can fit in 8 plants. So it doesn't really slow me down as I have multiple set ups.

Sometimes the little buds at the bottom of the plant are solid when I harvest the top. For me that is another sign that my plant has finished and I ain't chopping early.

Interesting that dude tops on day 14. Whenever you do it, do it when the leaves are praying. When the plant is happy it will recover fast.

Cheers for the info mate. Yeah I'll top them at 21-ish. Good tip about topping when they're praying. If you top when they're not doing great then harder for them to recover.

At what point do you top your autos, when they've got 5-6 nodes? If so I'm guessing that's close to them going into flower?
Yup , I don't treat autos much different than photos. I defoliate when needed, top them,,no issues. Some get topped sooner time wise than others ,,that's strain dependant. Autos don't suffer as much as some people make them out to. In fact my plants are much happier after a defoliation if they get to bushy. I've pulled over 300 grams in under 80 days on an auto that was topped, trained defoliated a few times. I prefer to try things myself rather than believe everything I read

Yeah there is a lot of misinformation around autos, that's for sure. I think some are less happy being topped than others, but that's probably because they are the quicker flowering autos, not just because they are autos. Also probably growers have topped them and the plant has looked shit but that was maybe due to other factors, such as a less than optimal environment or feeding schedule, then the grower has just assumed the topping was the issue.

About 8 days ago this was growing in a little 4” square pot. Transplanted to a 3 gallon. I chopped the top off and only let the two (first) bottom buds grow. I was going to play “Two Bud Challenge “ with myself. Thing just keeps growing. It was an extra plant. Decided to screw with it. It’s about 2” off the soil. Lol

You could also just let it grow and do nothing at all. A progressive harvest will make up for it and then some.

It stunted it pretty bad... still got an oz. off of it dry.. not too too bad...

I intentionally topped 4 autos TWICE this grow. I am into week 5 as of today and they're doing great. The only reason I topped them twice is I've always wanted to try it and I noticed these seeds were vigorous growers. At week 2 I topped, then again at week 3...I don't have hardly any stems on a couple of them but I have some crazy thick stems with beautiful colas forming everywhere.....Ethos, Mephisto and Rockbud are the 3 I topped twice..The Rocbud stayed shorter than the others. The Mephisto and Ethos didn't slow down..I have pictures if you want them
